I don't like to think of myself as conservative when it comes to clothing but I was very shocked at what I saw tonight.

See the image below? Imagine this outfit, but cut short well above the navel region (near the rib cage).. on what appeared to be a 5-7 year old. I saw this tiny little girl skipping out of an Applebee's wearing this nonsense and couldn't help but look away in embarrassment. Is that not the sensation and reaction to disgust? Her mother who followed behind appeared perfectly normal.

The real question is why am I disgusted? Why do so many people think this is wrong? Is there any harm that comes to this kid for dressing like a slut? Your thoughts and personal experiences in this topic?

i went through a phase like that.
she's innocent, she doesn't realize that she's dressing "slutty"
she probably saw it on some pop star's music video and wanted to emulate it.
shame on her mother for not saying no, but i doubt she's trying to be sexy

Because attempting to sexualise kids before they've matured is just plain wrong, and is probably the reason why there's escalating rates of teen pregnancies and all that shit these days -- because kids are feeling the pressure to have sex younger and younger. They have thongs for 7 year-olds these days for fuck's sake; you can't honestly say that's OK.

Why do so many people think this is wrong?

Because it is wrong. Children should be children, not adults displaying their assets for all the world to see. If an adult wants to show off their body then that's their prerogative. Kids don't know what the fuck they're doing, and if you let them wear shit like that so young, you'll indoctrinate them with the mindset that it's OK to dress, and accordingly, ACT a certain way, which just isn't right.

Is there any harm that comes to this kid for dressing like a slut?

See above.

Your thoughts and personal experiences in this topic?

I don't have any personal experience other than maybe seeing a few kids tarted up walking down the street with their parents. I personally think that parents should be more responsible and know when to say no to their kids. If I ever have kids, you can be sure as hell that they're not wearing fucking thongs and all that rubbish until they're actually mature enough to make their own decisions.

LMAO!!!

Yeah I reckon like someone else said that it's just something she has seen on TV... when you see a 15 year old dressing like that then there are possible down sides.... such as TEEN PREGNANCY etc...

And it's probably not disgust... probably more embarrassment for you or embarrasment for her.... its a sad world when you have to fear that if you were still looking and someone saw you that you are immediately a pedo...

Nothing wrong with that shirt... On someone who's gone through puberty. A little girl wearing that is just kinda weird, and a little gross.

It's not the child's fault, it's the parents - Always is. Some are more concerned about their children looking beautiful and stunning that they don't care how inappropriate some things are for children to wear.

Do you know what I hate? Seeing 12/13 year old girls sporting Playboy gear. The fact that their parents haven't stopped them I can't work out why. They should know what Playboy is and what it was started from.

Children need to be children, and have as much childlike innocent as possibly, because the real world sucks, the more time they have away from that the better. So they don't need to be dressing up like high classed hookers and glared at by hungry men.

because when you were hitting puberty, you followed every rule your parents set, and you were very innocent and didn't flirt with boys or watch r-rated movies or do anything except play with barbies and do your homework, like a good little girl.

i don't condone it, but i was thirteen once.
i was old enough to dress myself and rebellious enough to wear whatever the fuck i wanted regardless of mom's opinion.

Flirting and watching R movies are normal things for a teen to do. Dressing slutty and wearing Playboy stuff isn't. Just because you did it, doesn't mean we all did. 12 and 13 year olds are still children; they're barely even teens yet. Their parents can still be parents.

Playboy clothing isn't inherently slutty. It's just clothes. The connotation may be that of a pornographic magazine, but that doesn't mean you're going to be modeling in it just because you're wearing a black t-shirt with a white bunny on it.

i have playboy t-shirts and jewelry and purses. how is any of that slutty? you have to admit the logo is cute. maybe it's not proper for the younger kids to be wearing it, but you could say the same thing about kids wearing shirts that have saw iv shit on them. 12 year olds shouldn't be watching saw, but there's really nothing you can do, and no harm in wearing the shirt. it doesn't mean the kid is now going to wear a clown mask and torture hordes of people.

You think it's cute, young girls think it's cute - Do you think guys think it's cute though? No, not on your life, they just see the Playboy logo, which means porn to them, and they associate that with the girl who is wearing the stuff.

Stick to one topic, I'm not talking about films and games parents let their children watch/play, this is about clothes that parents have every right to 'control' what their kids are wearing right up till 16 or whatever.

Parents should realise the kind of message they are sending to perverts when they let their kids out like this, I mean just look at one of Playboy's ads;

Advertising the clothes but with a subtle hint of what Playboy is really known for.

This isn't "conservatism" at all.
And I believe it's true that some very young girls are dressing a bit too scantily.
Perhaps it's cute and perhaps it's innocent.

But not to others who may get very wrong ideas.
I say people should buy whatever you want to dress, but also keep in mind appropriateness. There are styles that are cute but aren't overtly sexualized.

After all, if people want to be sexy-- you hide things.
Showing them off means you're sort of a show off and perhaps lack a great deal of scruples.

Parents are the ones in control of money-- they shouldn't buy stuff that's overtly sexualized. They should know that people WILL be looking at their children that is in no way good.

The best thing to do is just ignore it. Let her grow up a life of drugs and whoring, and let her learn her lesson. Then, 15 years from now, scrounge up some loose change, drive out to the corner of Edwards and Main st. , and stick it in her pooper.

I kinda am a Conservative, I really don't think it's appropiate for children to wear things like that. People would do well to remember, as Liberal as they might want to be about the issue, that if a paedophile preys upon a child wearing scant clothing, that he would probably get a reduced sentence. We all know that judges in America are more leniant when the victim was wearing something titilating.

Of course, I'm a bit of a fan of Mary Whitehouse, I know she dedicated her life to toning down television, but most of my opinions are in line with the right-wing and I'm not very keen on seeing people of any age flaunt their body like that in the public.

In any case, I blame Pop music.

Prove that anyone leers at kids and forces them to grow up to soon? If that's something you think doesn't happen, you need to find your way back to reality. Shit like that happens. And by allowing your child to wear something that's logo is a sex symbol, you are sending the wrong message to your daughter and to other men.

Bullshit no one is forcing them to grow up, especially if they are as rebellious as you said they would be. They grow up on their own. they succumb to peer pressure. I admit advertising fucks with younger girls, but about the 13ish age you should know better.

It'd be a great deduction if it worked. If you wear a t-shirt that is based from the film Saw, it just means you like the film, and people will see you wearing that will notice that only, not care about how old you are, playboy is playboy, it's a porn magazine/channel that has been around since before these kids were born, it has that one meaning more than anything.

Besides, parents can restrict what their children wear because they can just buy all their clothes, but you can't stop a child from watching a horror film round a friends house.

...wha? can you prove that anyone actually doesthat?

So you're ignorant as well as idiotic as well as up your own ass as well as dull looking.

Just because YOU at 17 or whatever don't see a problem with wearing Playboy clothing, doesn't mean it's right for younger girls to at like 12/13, which was my original point.
