I knew I would get a chance to post this one day. When Donkey Kong came out it was hugely popular. Universal Studios heard about this and found many similarities between Donkey Kong and King Kong. This was a time when Nintendo was going against a company with unlimited legal resources. Universal Studios was (and still is) massive. Universal sued many game companies who were associated with Donkey Kong. Universal wanted lost royalties and to halt production of what was a very popular game.
Nintendo did their homework and long story short they beat Universal.
The reason I posted this is:
If Nintendo can beat such a colossal company when they're still small, they can beat these smaller companies who want royalties when they're big.
