Mute is a great invention. I'm guessing you have a touch-screen phone to have hit it accidentally?

You're just mad that we completely trashed your notion that the mute button was useless. I guess you're just not good enough to use it right...

Uhh...there is a mute button because what if there is something you want to say to somebody else in the room that you don't want the person on the phone to hear? DUH!

The mute button comes in handy when making prank phone calls. You can use it to block out your own laughter so the person being pranked cannot hear. This makes it less likely for them to figure out immediately that you are just messing around with them.
Other than that, mute is not real necessary. You could use it to censor yourself or something...

For those times when someone is on loudspeaker and you and another person are laughing at them for something and then they hear what you say.
Release your inner crazy.

I haven't heard one non-malicious reason to not use that button yet. Apparently it's the best thing ever for making fun of callers and laughing at them.
And what about me? The innocent victim of the mute button? Now my dad thinks I hung up on him. WAS IT WORTH IT? WAS IT ALL WORTH IT FOR YOUR CHUCKLES AND YOUR PRANKS?
