Well, let's see what goes on right here. There are 6 franchises, if I can't think of anything else.

Mario(Still going strong)
Zelda(Was wearing a bit but Phantom Hourglass bumped it back up)
Metroid(Corruption was awesome, but a wee bit too short)
Star Fox (Has been going downhill sense Assault/Adventures, whichever came first. A Wii game has endless potential)
Kirby (Hasn't had a game in like forever)
F-Zero (The Wii Wheel has great potential in being in this, if only they lowered difficulty)

So, what do you think will happen to Nintendo in 10 years?

I'm talking about what's been there from the beginning.

Well if you're talking about their beginning, that only means that they had a range of card games, and from what I've heard, that's not going so well for them :P

I think this is more accurately described as being from at least the SNES days, since Starfox and F-Zero debuted on the platform, I'm pretty sure.

I mean a 3D one. We had Nightmare in Dreamland and Canvas Curse. That's about it.

I think you forgot Fire Emblem somewhere in there. Still some of the best strategy games on the market. That, and I think the Sin and Punishment series has potential to stay for a while. But, until Nintendo actually steps up and shows us some innovation in the direction of their franchises, I don't expect much. It will be the same stuff, again and again.

But it's still better than the majority of the random shit out there.

my bad i never played it :'(

You would be doing yourself well to play it. All of the Metroid games are great (with the possible exception of Metroid II; never played), and don't get as much attention as they deserve from the hardcore crowd. You want to see Wii controls at their peak? Play Corruption.

WRONG!

the prime games got progressively worse as the series went on.

Star Fox (Has been going downhill sense Assault/Adventures, whichever came first. A Wii game has endless potential)

nintendo should just fucking run this series into the ground like squaresoft did with world of mana.
it's been like 3 shitty games in a row, just end it.

F-Zero (The Wii Wheel has great potential in being in this, if only they lowered difficulty)

or you can bypass nintendo completely and not buy any of their shitty useless peripherals.

So, what do you think will happen to Nintendo in 10 years?

soccer moms and organic rice cakes.

But that doesn't mean that it's too late. Sonic Unleashed seems to be poised to save the Sonic franchise, so why can't a new Starfox to the same thing?

I found the Wii Wheel to be fairly intuitive once I got used to it. Nintendo's got professionals. They know what they're doing, and make good peripherals to show it.

Mmm...rice cakes. But really, I'd expect them to continue this wave of succes they're on. When things get tough, Nintendo always seems to innovate and advance they way we think of gaming. If they can continue to do this, then they will be hugely successful.

I appreciate your cynicism. But still, I focus on the non-werehog levels, and how they look to be a return to form. Also, the brawling werehog levels just might be well implemented.

Why? Why is it terrible? Give me a few reasons other than your misguided teenage angst.

I actually liked the way that Assault played. Being able to walk, use multiple weapons, landmaster and arwing was great! The levels were huge and the enemies were fun to roll over. It was great for parties too.

What I didn't like was that the arwing was over-powered (and some of the characters) and the game was way too short.

Why do you think it was going downhill? It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either.
The multiplayer was headed the right way.

I think Pokemon and Smash Bros. can be added to their most lucrative franchises, no?

Yes, but Blaze is talking about the Nintendo franchises from the SNES days. Pokemon and Smash Bros. came out 3 and 4 years after the SNES era ended, respectively.

Mario(Still going strong)

Because of such a huge fan base, the games are becoming weaker by the second.

Zelda(Was wearing a bit but Phantom Hourglass bumped it back up)

Was never really wearing, still going strong

Metroid(Corruption was awesome, but a wee bit too short)

Epic game, definitely has more potential than its been given

Star Fox (Has been going downhill sense Assault/Adventures, whichever came first. A Wii game has endless potential)

Huge potential but just ignorant Nintendo CEOs

Kirby (Hasn't had a game in like forever)

Not a Nintendo franchise

F-Zero (The Wii Wheel has great potential in being in this, if only they lowered difficulty)

Yeah, always being difficult gave it so much though, huge accomplishment when you got a trophy

So, what do you think will happen to Nintendo in 10 years?

Still going strong, a Wii 2 out and as many Mii games as you can imagine.

When I read "the big N" I thought you meant black people and their game franchises.

They're going to re-release Metroid Prime 1 & 2 with Wii controls, which will be good, but I'd rather have a new 2D Metroid game.

Star Fox (Has been going downhill sense Assault/Adventures, whichever came first. A Wii game has endless potential)

I would love to see a new game, but I'm afraid it will be dissapointing.

Kirby (Hasn't had a game in like forever)

I'm pretty sure that they're already developing a 3D Kirby game for the Wii. It was originally going to be made for the Gamecube, but it got moved over to the Wii.

F-Zero (The Wii Wheel has great potential in being in this, if only they lowered difficulty)

I totally agree, we need more games that use the Wii Wheel.

As I see it, Nintendo is resting on its laurels. Since the rather epic success of the wii, Nintendo has not produced many high quality games (speaking for the wii exclusively) and has produced a shocking amount of shovel ware.

With the DS, I believe Nintendo has produced some good games, many of them remakes. (ex: super mario 64)

Overall I would give their performance a C- due to the severe lack of initiative they have shown with respect to producing quality games.

Anyone who says this is wrong. The Wii port was a rumor, and the original Gamecube game was cancelled and never talked about since.

And to answer someone else, yes this is a Nintendo franchise technically.
