And I'm not sure why. I downloaded the tweakbench VSTIs and they just don't seem to want to be read by FL Studio. Can anyone help me out? Maybe even tell me a little about what exactly a .dll is and how it works?

You need to put the .dll into this folder:
My Computer > Program Files > VstPlugins

Then when you open FL, and choose to insert another instrument, choose the "More" option, then click Check for new plugins > Fast scan.

Then it should be in that list in red text, then you can select the little F if you want it in the drop down menu when choosing a new instrument, double click it, it should open. Yadda yadda.
