I've really been thinking about changing to CS4. However, many things are holding me back.

-I've bought multiple books on how to use Flash 8 and AS2
-I've already adapted the mindset to write AS2, and my mind works in a way where breaking routine becomes unnaturally difficult
-The interface is friendly, and I get along fine with its features.
-Some other people are sticking with Flash 8 and AS2, so it would be ok for me to do so.
-CS4 costs a lot. Even if I wanted to just upgrade.

But, I've heard some things about CS4.

-It supports 3d rendering
-AS3 is a more effective way to make games
-Many other features.

Should I stick to Flash 8, since I'm already comfortable with it, and wait for the release of AS4 or something, or should I immediately switch to CS3?

Personally, I feel like I want to stick with Flash 8. However, I don't know much about CS3 so I can't make a decision.

I should also include that I'm kind of a newcomer to flash, which program would be most suitable for a new Flash artist?

Honestly, I'll probably just stick to Flash 8 until they make some PROFOUNDLY amazing changes to the next versions of Flash. The new ways to edit tweens is cool and all, but I'm only upgrading if they ever figure out to to fix the audio/video synchronization problem so I don't have to put up with fixing it everytime!

Also, CS3 is sort of a pain in the ass anyway.

Maybe get the trial when it comes out, see if you like it, and make your decision then.

stick to 8, the interface of the adobe CS series sucks, a friend of mine has flash cs3 but I always work with 8 cuz you have to click like 5 times before you get to the actions screen (you can be too compact)

Flash 8 is better to use if you're already used to it and you know as2 well.

What a load of crap.
I have to click once to get to the actions screen on CS3.
Because it's so customizable it's all about how you organize it.

I agree. I loved Macromedia's layout. I hate Adobe's layout.

I said it once and I'll say it again: They should have skin/interface options.

CS4's interface is like a mix between Flash 8 and CS3.

It's more customizable than F8, but not as laggy as CS3.

And I believe it's skinable.

I prefer's 8 interfrace too. I loved MX's as well, and it was an incredibly smooth switch between the two. It wouldn't be too hard to get used to where the icons shifted in CS3 and CS4, but why fix what's not broken?

I stuck with Flash 8. I'm not doing any dynamic audio stuff with actionscript any time soon, so y'know- What do I care? I 'm no scripting specialist anyway.

Kind of jealous of the BitmapData stuff where you can make shit go crazy without lag, and I can see the 3D manipulation stuff in CS4 being pretty cool. By the way, it doesn't render in 3D, it just distorts movieclips so it looks like you're rotating them around in 3D.

The IK bones stuff looks PRETTY GREAT and I kind of want that, but whatever, I'd probably never use it anyway.

I'm sticking to flash 8 until vital elements of AS2 become depreciated... that's when you know it's time to move on.

But then, it will just be harder to get into the newest version.
Flash Pro 8 all the way.

Perfect layout, perfect amount of features (i find cs3/cs4 to be a bit excessive, although mx was a tad lacking. Just a tad though, i loved mx :>), and i doubt the world will see a better balanced version of flash ever again.

Fuck you, adobe. You killed it.

Flash CS3 and 4 have more tools- and I know you can use AS2 in CS3 because I've used the free trial.
So you wouldn't really have to relearn the entire program or anything,
