Our judicial system at work!!!!
This is why lawyers and insurance companies are so popular.
A Charlotte, NC man having purchased a box of very rare, very expensive
cigars insured them against fire among other things. Within
a month of having smoked his entire stockpile of cigars and without
having made even his first premium payment on the policy, the man filed
a claim against the insurance company. In his claim, the man stated the
cigars were lost "in a series of small fires." The insurance company refused
to
pay, citing the obvious reason: that the man had consumed the cigars in
the normal fashion. The man sued...and won! In delivering the ruling, the
judge agreed that the claim was frivolous. He stated nevertheless that the man
held a policy from the company in which it had warranted that the cigars
were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure against fire,
without defining what is considered to be "unacceptable fire," and was
obligated to pay the claim. Rather than endure a lengthy and costly
appeal process, the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid the man
$15,000.00 for the rare cigars he had lost in the "fires."
HERE COMES THE GOOD PART!!
After the man cashed the check, the insurance company had him arrested
on 24 counts of ARSON. With his insurance claim and testimony from the
previous case being used against him, the man was convicted of intentionally
burning his insured property and sentenced to 24 months in jail and a
$24,000.00
fine.
This is a true story and it won the 1999 Criminal Darwin Award.

I hate to say it but this case & cases like it is part of the non-american's view of America, America's legal system really does seem to only exist to serve the greedy at times, It's wierd, America is the only place that has "Freedom of Speech" in their constitution yet it is also the place where you are most likely to be sued just for saying something.

Maybe McDonald's should have filed a claim on that woman that the reason she spilled the coffee on herself was due to reckless driving and/or speeding. I'm not sure if that would work though...

Like the Australian judicial system is any better.
Speaking of greed though, I think the welfare statistics in this country far outshine those in America in terms of BOTH laziness and greediness.

It's getting bad but it's not quite as bad as America yet, America is where it started & it has spread from there

America has far from adequate Welfare, it's partly from their fear of cummunism, they seem to think that communism is a communist idea, they also seem to think health care is too communist for them, Australia on the other hand has an odd mess with welfare, welfare is less than adequate for some & more than justifiable for others, It's full of loopholes & frequent clerical mistakes, these loopholes alow many parasitic types to scam the system but also there are people who do everything that is expected of them & seriousley need welfare who get fucked other by a clerical error, I my self was, CenterLink kept sending my forms 2 weeks late & I went to see them about it but they kept doing it so it ended up with them terminating payment for late forms & I didn't bother fighting it, the total of $1063 that they ever sent me kept me going long enough to pick up Temp work & that money in turn kept me going until I got my current job.
