Hey I got the game from a friend of mine while in Romania, and I put it on my computer and unarchived it and it works yeah, perfectly fine. BUT the thing is I can't play online for some reason. Is there a file missing or something? I am going to need you guys to help me cause It is really boring playing with bots even on hard mode or whatever I never lose so someone please tell me what to do.
Hmm, more information would be good. Why won't it let you play online? What does it say? Then I could help you, since I've used Steam for a while.

he might not be playing on steam. if that's the case, then there's your problem.

You can't play Cs to my knowledge without it, they have patched it all.
With the PM that he sent, "When I search for Servers nothing comes up", I believe that you should try to forward your ports, or check its allowed in your Firewall/Anti-Virus.
If you've done it, and its still not working use the Steam Website and the forums there will help.

i most certainly can play source games without steam. i downloaded counterstrike once from some crappy cd i found and it didn't tell me i needed a steam account. then i was confused why i couldn't play online.

A lot more people play Source, but still a lot of people play 1.6 for the zombie mod. ZM sucks ass on Source, but everything else is better.

nope. I'm starting to think it was a pirated version that my brother bought in some other country because the cd art and the box it came in sucked
