4.07 / 5.00 10,082 ViewsI really don't know if I'm allowed to do this because their already a post from someone else wanting help but becuase I'm giving a specific story I think I'm allowed to post this (I'm new to newgrounds so I really only get a vague concept of the rules so please don't ban me!)
For those of you who haven't read both my posts (I'm sorry I keep doing this) My idea for a project is a combination of Kingdom hearts and Nintendo. By this I mean having a new cast of characters (no final fantasy characters) travel to differnet Nintendo based worlds (instead of Disney based). I have already finished a script but of cource it could use critical judgement.
Here's where the bad news kicks in. As I have said in both my posts, I can't draw and fail at even recoloring sprites (example being in my posts). I also don't know that much about flash code. What I'm really asking for is someone to help me draw the game and help create the battle system.
For anyone who flames me quickly because they don't want to listen to a noob. Please, soem of you might have started where I am now or somewhere near where you wanted to bonce of ideas with a friend or soem expert. I really don't any flash masters for friends and kind of have a disadvantage.
If you think this idea might have some merit, please just give me some advice or help. I really would like to see this project come through. Don't flaem me becasue every noob asks for help. Just please at least give it a chance.
Anyone that even seems interseted or wants to critize this go ahead.
Correct me if I'm wrong:
You're no good at: drawing, coloring and scripting.
You want to make a 'project' based on Kingdom Hearts with Nintendo characters.
I have no idea wether this is a game or not.
You've finished a script (you said you could use some critics, fine, but where's your script then?)
You're asking for artists to collaborate with (even though you can't do anything).
So your goal is: to find artists, be the leader of the collab, do nothing and let them do all the hard work, finish it up, submit, and take credit for no work.
I have no idea wether I'm right or wrong, I'm probably wrong, but you're not really giving us too much of a great description of your "project".
Mind updating those details, so they're a bit more clear? :)
Let me answer this piece by piece
I'll let you be the judge on my recoloring (the picture is my recoloring of King Kirby's verison of sora). As for programming, I'm kind of familar (I can do a lot with) visual basic, but I don't know if the same rules apply with Flash (if so, I willing to help with flash code but if we decide on side-scrolling I really only know RPG style). The real issue is the artwork as I would like to add cutscenes to the game.
About the story let me give you what the "base concpet is". Two boys (names subject to change), Shin (the title character) is a page to the royal guard for the prince Kou (the secondary character of the game), whom found him orphaned and somehow alone near the castle gates and helped him survive. Kou is tired of the mannerisms and the "prison" of being royalty (Like riku's prison of ebing stuck on the island). One day dark beings rise and storm the castle (either the villians of Subspace or game and watchs). The castle then begins to blacken and a shadow door opens. Shin and Kou are the only ones who are able to escape the world collapes.
However, they Shin and Kou are seperated and Shin falls into the mushroom kingdom. Mario has already left the world and fighnting off several shadow beings with the aid of Donkey Kong. Luigi, now left in charge of the castle and is visited by Pit (this character is subject to change but Luigi not so much) who comes trying to find the one resposible for the destruction of several planets. after some time in the kingdom, Shin and the other two eventually meet up in a battle against Wario, who is corrupted by a "Dark core" a gem that attaches itself to a person desiring power and uses them to corrupt the world until the point of the planet's destruction. They defeat Wario and as Shin's blade begins to light up, destory the dark core. Teh three then decide to group up on individual missions, Luigi to find Mario, Pit to find a destory the cause of the situation, and Shin to fidn Kou. (Sorry for any spelling errors).
This is all I'm going to unveal until I can get a team together. The idea is to make a game with a similar background to Kingdom hearts (just the whole darkness thing, and teh idea of traveliing into seperate worlds based on Nintendo games).
Finally is the real issue, credit. I said in my post (no need ot look at it now I guess) I don't plan on hogging anyones glory by saying it was all me. It would be a collab with every participents work shown clearly on the main page. I don't expect to be a leader on this unless anyone wants me to be. I would just want something in teh credits saying "Orginal scrpit by DiggoryLost" or something. I am willing to do sprites, help with some code I might know, voice acting etc. It wouldn't be a "leader"-like role in this thing by i just thought this was a good idea and didn't want it to go to waste.
The only part about your criticism is that you say I wouldn't be doing anything. Writing a scrpit isn't nothing (no matter what anyone says). I know it seems that without a master artisic ability, noone on Newgrounds cares what happened. I think that if you have good artwork, but are using a lame flash about fat jokes and other rude humor, you're not deserving of an 8 or 10 or sometimes even a 6. My belief is that if you write a good script (not talking about me I'm talking about many of the "flash masters" out their who can do both) and have artwork that makes everyoen say "wow" thats a 10. You have to make a movie/game with both to be big on this site
So in summary
- I might know flash code if its the same as visual basic (Ireally don't know if they are)
- The biggest need for this project is an artist with skills (by that I mean not stick figure)
- I'm able to do Sprites but might need some editing (you be the judge)
- The stoies guidelines of the script are up their, I'll PM you if you want more.
- I don't excpet do be the leader, just the idea guy
- I always planned on giving more credit to everyone else and don't excpect and shares of whatever money we get (I hear you get sponcered or something, I dint; even knwo that existed)
- I am willing to help with Sprite artwork game code and be a voice actor, you knwo the little things.
- Writing isn't nothing. You need art and Story to make a good flash
-Sorry for spelling, I was in a rush to post.
Just letting you know the deal with this thign since I'm either vague or noone went to see my posts.
ok seriously too many people with
I want ot make a game but i dont know how to draw or use flash or script..

oh VB is nothing like Flash

I agree... Flash takes a while to learn, whether you know how to use it or not.
I've been using flash for 3 years now and I still don't know much about it.
That's why I stick to sprites
Get flash and play around with it, thats how I learned.
I can't tell if you're joking, because you never use emoticons. ~ SolidToad
Like I said before I wasn't going to take alot of credit in teh4 game developing, I'm just throwing an idea anyone could take for themselves.
Not to be rude to anyone who can do both, but like I've said before, story adds to a game so that's its more then juts, say a basic soccer ball bounce game.
For those who say "learn it" I really don't have much time right now to really fiddle as much (another reason why I'd only be able to do little stuff) I'm in college right now and I can't really find time to do a whole lot with flash. The 3 years to learn it would be 6 yeas and by then, there will be more to learn.
I could just sprite the thing and just do a crappy RPG battle-type by using flash tutotials. I just want this thing to be the best it can be (wheather its my project or in the hands of another) and don't want to half-ass the thing.
Sorry for any spelling errors I type really fast and don't really look b4 I post
If you really have a vision for something, you will make it yourself. People can't read your mind, no matter how detailed your script is. Only you can create your vision.
You are either trolling us or you fail as an artist. Nobody creates art by making a team of people do everything for them, unless you're a fat rich fuck like the greasy snobs who run Disney, and all they care about anymore is stuffing their pockets with your cash.
You're not a true artist if you expect other people to do your work for you. What a pathetic person you would have to be if you think you can be an artist by having everyone else do your work.
Get some fucking patience and learn animation, graphics, sound design, as I have disciplined myself to learn in the last six years. I could not be happier as an animator having all this technical skill, its rewarding. You should give it a try.
I'm not going to be like a lot of these people sugar coating things for you. I also predict some responses to this with people defending you, telling me not to be such an asshole.
When I first started animation and game design, I didn't ask everyone to do it all for me. I knew that there wasn't a secret awesome sauce that good artists have that turn everything they make into a masterpiece. I KNEW it took time and diligence to become good. Anyone with a real brain will tell you that. Unlike a lot of the people on this forum who come here and ask shit like "how do i make flash movies awesome like alvin plz respond and dont say mean things cuz i like sugar coated shit handed to me on a platter and im a stupid faggot"
Even with experience in animation already, it only took me a couple days to learn the basics of Flash. Don't listen to nooblet retards, Flash is a relatively easy program compared to a lot of animation software out there. This is the result of my two days Flash knowledge.
I recommend you seriously give thought to what I said. You seem plenty intelligent just by how you talk alone, I'm sure you could have a lot of animation concepts down pat fairly quickly. Just the fact that you know programming tells me you have a brain capable of learning it all. Sorry if this seems harsh but I'm getting quite pissed now after seeing people one after another come on this forum asking to have everything handed to them.
Good luck with your projects, but endure the efforts yourself. No big deal if you collab with people, but what this is is not the same as collaborating.
No matter how good you are at something, there is always someone better. I'm living proof of that.
Thank you for the words of encourgment. Unlike what you talked about being defended and all, so far all I've heard is crap about how I'm asking others for help.
I really do fail as an artist. I've never had a knack for it or ever practised (if you see my youtube's teh only skill I have is recoloring sprites) because I focused on creating ideas and hoping that if I could team up with an artist the idea would be brought to life. Many American artists (espacilly the famous ones who do Batman Superman etc etc) work as a writer/artist team (I don't know how those manga artists do it).
Yea it would probobly only take a few days of tinkering and a "Flash for dummies" to learn audioscript and sound effects and such are already easy for me to edit. It really art that's the main issue.
You're right I should learn the stuff and not always "hound" everyone for help. But don't call everyone who makes a writer/artist team where the writer hands a scrpit to an artist and the artist draws it a "fat F***". Some people have busy lives where they can only learn one of thsoe skills. Some peopel can't get the "knack" for artwork. That's why, like I said comic book writer's (my aspiration) form teams.
I have said before, it's not just writer's who go on sites writing "can you draw this for me?" I'm currently trying to work with someone else as well, creating a new scrpit for them to host on youtube and Newgrounds. Not everyone who can draws can write a scrpit but noone calls them "fat f***"
I feel sorry for anyone who tries to read these long-winded speeches. I try to get my point acrosss quicker but I really need to stop reapeating myself
Let's face it this idea is pretty dead really. The only people who look at this keep complaining about my lack of art skills and asking for help, and the only advice I get is take about 6 years to learn to draw, which I do not have the time (six years on top of work and college? No way!) or the resources (most artists now probobly learned from an expert or are,did go to school for this stuff) and to pretty get off of Newgorunds
*Sigh* It's kind of depressing dealing with everyone spilling out how art is the only thing that matters in animation or in anything concerning media in general. When wrting is reduced to the back seat in video games (everyone's more concerned about the graphics then really the games nowadays and people choose Halo for its versus mode, not the story, then Legend of Zelda) and when no one reads a book and comics are only read if the artist is famous, we live in a bad world.
I really like this idea. If you have any ideas for actual game mechanics, message me on AIM at Uyersuyer. If you don't have AIM, get it or else I'll just do whatever the fuck I want with it.

I agree, it does suck inversely when animators get all the credit and writers don't.
However I write and animate at once which prevents the problem. I give lots of credit even to people who didn't do much. I'm very picky about making sure people get proper credit.
Thank you for responding with intelligence and not getting pissy wussy at me. I don't think you had to get sad on the matter, but that's better than starting a fight.
I still give you my encouragement for your project, it sounds interesting enough. I would like to see it when some of when its released.

haha!! Very clever.. touche my friend touche .. anyway i agree the story line does have to be well done :) if i had the skills i'd help out
awww
How can you do a kingdom hearts game without the final fantasy characters in it. Thats like...the best part about it.
I know I should add final fantasy characters but let's face it, Nintendo and Square Enix would not be as likely to work together as Square Enix and Disney
Teh whole idea was to have teh rawest concept of kingodom hearts (the travlling to differnet worlds based on disney, or in this case Nintendo, and the concept of using a three party system of one new charcter and two famous characters)
The battle system (I don't have AIM) would be similar to final fantasy games. The beginning selction would be Fight, Magic, Item and Fuse (a new concept) with run not an option (no cowards). magic would consist (for the main character anyways) of 8 spells that you would have to choose from the main menu before battle and would include fire (in teh form of ember), ice (in the form of chill), thunder (in teh form of shock), cure (in the form of aid) (these would evolve) and four spells that would not evolve which would include Wirlwind (which would force a enemy unti to retreat), rage (which would be stronger if you were attacked), protect (first strike, protect against enemy attack), and Sword Dance (raises teh team's strength)
Fuse would be simialr to the drive command in KH2. It would however require you to fuse with your outside party member (remember that in KH you had four party members, teh three main and one world specific) . Instead of having a color change and new atack types, you would instead become a mixture of both charcters and gain that chacters techniques.
Sorry for not posting earlier but I was busy with alot of stuff
