That's it. I'm getting out of this country.
The UK is soaring to new heights of Orwellianism. Jacqui Smith (just the latest incompetent home secratery in a long line of Neo Labour incompetent home secetarys) has announced plans to to form a massive database of all mobile phone and internet traffic that passes through the UK.
When I heard this I as amazed but not, I am sad to say, supprised. Our "glorious leaders" have been obsessed with social conformity and population control ever since they came to power. September 11 must have been the ultimate wet dream for Whitehall. As with the "Patriot" act in the US, that tragic event has been used as the reasoning behind hundreds of infringments on the basic human rights of the UK population.
Since Labour came to power in 1997 there have been three thousand new laws passed in the UK. The national ID card scheme is well underway despite massive outcry from almost every corner of the popultaion (the planned card will be linked to a databse which not only contains all your personal information but also your fingerprints, Iris scans and a copy or your DNA). This is despite the fact that there have been no less than 14 incidents in the last year where massive ammounts of personal data has been lost by government departments, including incidents where top secret documents were left on a fucking train.
The nanny state is prevelent in every aspect of government. We already have the largest DNA database with aproxamatly 4.8 million entries, 350,000 of which are those of children under 14. New road pricing schemes are in the pipeline which would have the ability to track every vehicle in the country and London has the most CCTV cameras of any city in the world.
When I see proposals like these I have to wonder if the people who propose them have any understanding of the technology at all. Labour have an appalling track record on IT with every scheme running millions over budget and usually with as much security as a leaky sive.
If the current UK administration were a person I wouldn't trust them to take a piss with out assistance. The sheer ammount of new laws suggests an administration increasingly struggling to justify its own pointless existance. If this scheme goes ahead then I'm getting the fuck out. I have dual nationality and a forign passport, I can leave and I don't have to come back, it's the poor sods who are stuck hear that I feel sorry for.
Sometimes murder of politicians is justified.

makes me glad i live in a little pissant town in america. I wouldn't blame you for one moment if you hauled ass out of the UK. Before you know it, they're gonna wanna implant tracking devices deep inside of everyone.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if the UK ended up like something from a movie where every single person's every move is recorded and monitored. The UK is a GREAT example of what I'm dreading to see in america, the government completely controlling everyone. It will only be a matter of time before it happens in America, because mentally challenged retards blindly follow European trends.
That's what you get when the size of the government grows out of control. the government is like Kudzu. If you don't keep it cut down to size, it'll completely overrun your entire yard.
Scariest part, the fall of liberty all too often happens with thunderous applause.
Wake up America, if our course continues as is, this is what we face in 20 years. If we let the government continue to grow, we're gonna start seeing the same. Our rights will be stripped from us and eventually we'll be slaves to the government juggernaut.
I'm not crazy, everyone else is.

Except for the last sentence, I'm with you to 100%. I live in Sweden, and we also get our fair share.
This really has to stop, and as a citizen, one feels powerless. I've been on several protests against it, written letters to the polticians, and everything else I can legally do. Our only hope now is the European Court of Human Rights, and quite frankly, I doubt they will act. It was a long time ago when the EU actually cared about human rights. My hope is that investors will flee Sweden, that might get the EU to act.
Parliamentary democracy is failing all over the world right now. Too much power is given to the ruling class, and too many in the non-political elite can affect the world.
Damn, I shouldn't even think about this. It's things like these that gets me my Mirtazapin.
You shouldn't believe that you have the right of free thinking, it's a threat to our democracy.

Yep, we're the officially most watched nation on Earth. If you love Nineteen Eighty-Four, you'll get a boner over this.

Youfools thought that you would be able to maintain a system where the government provides everything for you without that same government overstepping it's boundaries.
If more than half of your property [economic earnings] belongs to the government by natural right than why not half of your life? or half of your liberty? hasn't john locke taught you anything.
A state in which the government controls the means of production is not a state that works the people, but never for the people.
On a moving train there are no centrists, only radicals and reactionaries.

The craziest thing is that british voters actually support the actions of their insane government. England is worse than 1984 in some regards, the proles had a much easier go of things.

Yeah its a star wars quote, but consider this.
Hitler rose to power in thundering applause, what comes next? If you don't know, then... wow.
Instead of going through the mile long list of elected leaders who turned dictator, 9 times out of 10 they rose to power with the people cheering them on, then BAM. they pull an Emperor Palpatine, seize all the power for themselves, and put the people under their thumb.
I'm not crazy, everyone else is.

I can't wait for The Daily Mail's take on this: whilst video games are encouraging our youth to rape, murder and maim...The Dark Knight is influencing Orwellian measures from our Home Secretary who's done nothing but fuck up since she got the job.

Dont worry, we will be getting a government change soon enough.
I wouldnt run just yet.
It seems like Labour are pulling a bush and doing 'just how bad can we be and still not get violently kicked out?'

Ah, but Jacqui Smith has stood out for her habitual fuckuppery, which serves as a good reason no woman has ever been Home Secretary before.
Well, that and Labor (yes, that's intentional) have thus far had a disabled Home Secratary, a woman Home Secretary...so when do we get an ethnic one?
