AOE2 help with multy 2008-10-24 20:53:06

Me and a friend are trying to face each other on Age of empire 2 using the internet tcp/ip connection, i don't know if there are any people on NG who still do this??
anyways when me or my friend create a server if he clicks on mine he is sent back to the main menu...
so no fun is to be had.. if anyone knows a solution to this problem that would be great.
as well our firewalls are off

anyways any help would be much appreciated general
