Rage aside it is a program made by VALVe the company that makes the Half-Life series and the Counter-strike games, but also more recently Team Fortress 2 and Left4Dead. Steam is what you play the games on, you need an account, you can also buy all kinds of games online on steam, they will go on your games list and you can install them on any computer, you need to be connected to your account to play tough.

Steam is a sort of a video game library, were you can find all types of video games, you can play demos, or buy the game. It's really great.
