i hear ya, but i dont beleive it sucks.
However, drawing anime does take skill and my own art is influenced by that style, it's been described as anime by many. I just find that strange considering I'm not Japanese.
i also hear ya, but i actually try to make anime. in fact, i sometimes spend my 2 hours on sundays i use for sleeping to put together cells and actually animate real cartoons.
i'm not workin my normal hours since i'm horrificly sick.

the only thing seperating you from the uneddited stuff and the eddited stuff is a language barrier and a dvd player. get the lessons, get the dvd, get the dvd player. nuff said.

I am straight, but I love you, Haro Freak. You're the shining beacon of good taste for Newgrounds membership.
Zeta Gundam is my second favorite Television Series, with my first being Evangelion. Char as "Quattro Vagina" is pimp, and Fa Yuri is superhot by my standards. Plus the mechs looked their best then, in that post-Macross era. Awesome yet semi-realistic detail.
My favorite movie is End of and my second is Macross: Do You Remeber Love.
But my favorite of all is neither movie nor TV series and that is GunBuster

Yes, because it's soooo easy to learn japanese... have you ever seen that language?! They must have been whacked out on opium when they came up with that! Unless you're willing to dedicate several years to learn it, that ain't gonna happen.

Wow, I haven't seen RPJ around anymore. Did he give up or something?
Nonetheless, to contribute to the topic, I'm a huge FLCL fan.

The Cartoon Network in Hong Kong does not have any kind of Japanese Animation, instead, all the people get are re-runs of episodes made years ago. Heck; there is nothing new for the last 5 years!

well, if you had a sad child hood like mine, you'd spend whole saturdays in a library studieing a fuck load of languages in the library.
known fact: japenese is the toughest language to learn.

Well, those are all TV shows which are aimed at a younger audience.
If you're looking for more mature Animations, I suggest Yuki-Kaze, Z Gundam or perhaps the Slayers Series.

I only has non-anime kiddy cartoon in Cartoon Network channel in my country, so I'm with you. My only anime dose will be in AXN channel, but now they are still playing the same thing for -say- 5 times. :S
Back to subject, my favourite will be Fist of North Star for its violence, Samurai X for blade action and some mecha here and there. Love Hina is funny, and so is Azumanga.
IMHO, anime is more reviewable than non-anime cartoon(Well, some are exceptional like Invader Zim.). Anyone who see the non-anime Megaman series will know what I mean. :shudder:
I think many hate anime because of the voice cast. Through the informations from my friends, most anime in their TV channel are translated into the country's language, mostly known as Dubbed. The dubbing affects the anime greatly. The more life is added to the voicing, the better and vice versa. But most people dubbed the anime badly. If you watch the Dragonball dubbed version in my country, it will turn your appetite down with the poor voicing. :S
So far, I think that cantonese dubs the best voices, but everyone has their own opinion. I never felt awkward watching my dwi-language(Cantonese and Japanese) Evangellion.
If given choice, I will rather choose subbed(Letters included) over dubbed.

The only thing you're missing out on is Cowboy Beebop (aka total shit), DBZ, Kenshin (i thought the main character was a woman when I first saw it/him) and Trigun (one of the most cliched animes I have ever seen)
The only thing I liked on CN was Mobile Suit Gundam (only because all the other shows they played at the time were pokemon and Dragon Ball Z)

well, i had the ultimate way for translating that works out for everyone.
if you...
a. Hate an uber cheesy voice actor cast
b. Don't like how they fit the voicing into the anime
c. Don't wanna read off the bottom of the screen the whole time for translations.
d. happen to be deaf and cant read the lip movements.
...then you're likely to agree with my theory.
now, this is the ultimate idea.
i call it "ART", or "Anime, Reverted and Translated"
1. Get a kickass group of voice actors. (translated in a kickass style)
2. Replace a few cells in the animation and make it look as if there was no translation. much like flash, anime uses layers and symbols, but it's all using peices of celluloid, or cells. for example, i once had to change a phrase in my 2nd epside of my own lil series. just repaint and replace the cells. (reverted so theres none of that cheesy translation lag)
combine the 2 above and you'll be asking yourself "what translation?"
cheesy voice actors + the stereotypical anime translation lag = 100% cheesiness
kickass cast - the stereotypical anime translation lag = the ultimate anime for the non-anime people, too.
