Tough question. x_x; I guess I don't think there's a best anime ever, just favorites... I do agree though that Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop are great. The former's one of my favorites, maybe because it was the series that really got me into anime.

I'll just add Angel Sanctuary, Fushigi Yuugi, Fruits Basket, Princess Mononoke, and Gundam Wing to that list. xD

All anime sucks, it's all based on popular japanese culture stereotypes, and the Otakus make it even worse!
However, drawing anime does take skill and my own art is influenced by that style, it's been described as anime by many. I just find that strange considering I'm not Japanese.

Favourite anime? The one where everyone dies and the animators get raped by tentacles, what was it called? Astro Boy?

Yep. It is described as "Anime" by many, only to not know that they are wrong. "Anime" is short for "Animation", whereas "Manga" is the japanese equivalent for "Drawings/Comics". So technically, drawing comics with a japanese style implemented takes a lot of skill indeed.

Astro Boy; a.k.a Mighty Atom... One of the earliest animations ever and is famous for being one of the earliest humanoid robots to appear in cartoons.

Those are among the most watered down consumer mush out there. Out done only by DBZ, Sailor Moon, and Pokemon. Granted these two movies were ok but they just didn’t feel right. They certainly weren’t half as entertaining as most of the stuff out there. Even the director didn’t want to see Mononoke when it was released in the US. If those are the only ones you liked then I’d just stick to not liking anime if I were you.

Anyways. As many of you mentioned; there is no "Best" animation. But there are "Best Animations For A Specific Category" though.

Categories include: Machines, Shojo, Humour, SD (Super Deformity), War, etc...

Machines include the famous Gundam, Macross, Evangelion, Getter and Mazinger series to name a few.

Shojo are mainly love stories with the female character as the leading character.

Humour and SD are comical and simple ones such as Crayon Shin Chan, Hamtaro, and many others...

War actually sort of clashes into the Machines Category as both have similar traits. But one example of a War series is Yuki-Kaze.

There are many more other types such as the infamous Hentai series, but I think we had enough of it for now.
