I wanna give my pics more 'depth'.

I tend to add a general shade and highlights, but it just doesn't have enough life to it.

Here's how I currently shade, anyways:

Better colors, more shadows less light, or the other way around.

thats how to make something look dramatic.

I like to look at how other people shade. One of the best shaders I know is Stamper. Just study the way he makes his shadows and highlights (umm picture is not work safe... I mean, it's by Stamper, duh)

I know his style of shading is kinda advanced, but just look around at artists who's style of shading you like, and study it. That's the best advice I can offer :/

Shading happens to be one of my stronger points so I may be able to help ya with this one!

From looking at your drawing it seems you need more contrast, especially in your shadows. Have like one color that's for light shadows and another for dark shadows.

Now it looks like it wouldn't be able to pick anything up because it's small and wimpy :(

Most of your stuff looks like plastic and overly shiny.

As for the OP's shading, I can't tell which direction the lighting's coming from. I like how it looks, the style looks neat. but the shading direction is fucking weird. The ear makes i look like it's coming from above, the head looks like it's coming from the right, and on the torso, it looks like it's coming from straight in front.

I think my opinion is still valid. I choose to use brighter colors because Im not going for realism. Besides, I didn't say "use lots of light colors", I told him to use more dark colors. But yeah, thanks for noticing though! I looked at your stuff too, you're pretty good!

Oh right shading! Maybe you should try blending! That gradual change from dark to light will give your work an illusion of depth.

It's easy to talk like you have more of a clue than the artist, but you art speaks louder than your words. And since you have nothing posted, you just sound like a buzzing mumble of shit.

Just reference real life, judging by your picture and the harsh shading it seems like his skin and clothing are all the same. Soft shading for skin and generally darker shading on clothing etc.

Also emphasize the shading on the clothing too so you add that distinct difference. Its good to add some variations of shading too, just every once in a while.

It really depends on the look you want. Referencing really helps though, from life and other artists.

Anyway theres my shit talkin' over.

I never said to remove the midtones completely, just make it look more interesting by adding more contrast.

1. Close eyes
2. Grab cock
3. Thrash anything in front of you with cock for approximately 30-60 seconds
4. open eyes

If you missed the mouse button repeat steps 1-4 as much as needed

If you don't have a cock, you should be in the kitchen, not drawing.
