you know where you are held against your will 2 - 6 hours after school hours? i think it should be illegal because the school should have no right to detain students against their will. i think that in school or out of school suspension is fair though. i never got detention and i only got suspended once when i was in the 6th grade

Sounds like a nice long vacation to just do nothing for a year...yeah that will teach him to set a desk on fire. Of course he probably got yelled at the first few days or something but then the parents "forgot" about it...and didn't hold it as a grudge.

Get beaten with a paddle by a pissed off principal, or detention. Your choice.
Or you could just be a better person?

I'm curious as to what fucked up school gives detention for 2-6 hours.

Our school is nuts about being late to class. It used to be that if you were late three times you got a detention, but now they'll make you stay after school for a few minutes. I don't really see the big deal, because of the after school thing teachers have become less strict about the policy and giving students a bit more leeway.

They are not forcing anybody to do anything against their will, the student is deliberately doing an activity with the risk of getting a detention.
All students can do what they want if they don't do what they want knowing that the stuff they do that is bad is what they want and is bad.
eh.

Well, technically detention is illegal wherever people have a right to a fair trial. unless given to someone after trial by a jury of peers. which of course never happens.

My school gives out anything from 30 min to 2 hours.
Get over it, you sit there and read or day dream. Omg so amazingly torturous.
Hey, don't do the fucking deed in the first place.

They cannot give me detention anymore. I have a job and say that I cannot miss work. If they say "oh well", then I just skip. In School Suspension makes my grade go up anyways.

A school year isn't even close to 365 days.
No one would ever get suspended for more than a year, that's completely idiotic.

True, i believe a *typical* school year consists of roughly 180 days.
I agree, more than a year for anything would be tasteless and even further;pointless.

at my old high school, detention was 90-120 minutes (depending on what you did and how bad it was) after school

Maybe it'll teach the dirt-ass annoying kids to quit being douche bags. Also, if the parents and kids have a problem with it, it's easy, they don't have to go back to the school! I doubt the school system would even feel the bit sorry.

Y'know, that doesn't sound too bad.
Although I'd rather just avoid all of that and be a good boy.

We had in-school detention. Naughty kids didn't get detention, only late kids-even if it was excused. You had to stay in this big room during morning break and you weren't supposed to get any food or drink. If you had three, you couldn't play any games if you were in sports.

It's not a big deal, just sit in a room for an hour or be forced to clean tables at lunch.
