I'm goddamn tired of people freaking out because they think Obama is a muslim. Every time someone says he's a muslim, 10 people seem to absorb it, believe it, and spread it.

I recently read a bulletin on myspace, posted by a best friend of mine, I was kinda pissed that she reads some crap and doesn't research Obama one bit. I really need to find a way to get this through her head.

Once again, I am not trying to spark an argument with you. I just do not understand how people have drilled it into eachother's heads that this man is a Muslim. Living overseas for a short period of time as a child, does not make one a Muslim.

IF you were a republican trying to get the religious base to vote, and most of them didn't really like you to begin with, wouldn't it be a great idea to create doubt in their minds about the opposing candidate being a muslim with "terrorist links?" Not only will it get your base out, but it will get the opposing candidate's base weary and suspicious, perhaps cynical enough to switch their vote or NOT vote at all.

I used to get chain letters all the time. Rarely about actual events, they were usually of the "repost 15 times or a dead girl will bite your earlobes off" variety, but in any case i'd pick apart the obvious flaws and terrible writing. I find any chain letter about a political issue always takes the same condescending, falsely apologetic tone-- imagine "my friends" injected every few sentences, and I can picture John McCain reciting this at some rally. It's a pity the panic-inducing shock-tactic chain letter continue to be circulated instead of the counter-literature opposing them.

First of all, Eastern, northern, and western christians aren't that dumb.

Second, So you're telling me that you have NEVER called soemone you new the wrong name before? Or said the wrong word when implying to say another? If saying my muslim faith, makes you muslim then what about my christian faith? He said that alot too.

A mea culpa on that, I just found the longform version of that interview. BUT.... what about the stuff in the conservapedia article? You can bash it all you want for being conservatively biased spinoff of wikipedia, but it does raise some interesting questions about Obama's personal life that I don't feel have been properly answered. For example; the comments about Malcom X, his seemingly recent profession of faith in Christianity, his reading muslim literature on the campaign trail....?

Hussein comes from the Arabic tri-consonantal root (hard) H-S-N and the verb hasana / yahsunu simply means "to be beautiful/to be handsome" (among other similar nuances). Names like Husayn/Hussein and Hasan are dervied from this root.

There was a famous Hussein who was a grandson of Muhammad through Fatima, the only one who had surviving children among Muhammad's two daughters who lived longer than he did, and who was martyred at Karbala in Iraq when he fought the first Umayyad caliph, Mu`awiya. Because this Hussein was a Shi`ite the name is more often found in Iraq and Iran than in Sunni lands and I wonder if Obama's father really had this grandson of Muhammad in mind when he named his son. Barack Obama was born to an atheist father, who was a Muslim, and a Christian mother. Obama isn't of "Muslim descent", as Islam is a religion, and not a race (Muslim is just a codeword for Arab and South Asians).

If you consider Obama a Muslim, then Richard Dawkins is a Christian because his father was a priest.

What these morons also fail to realize is that the Bible does not state what nationality the antichrist will be, nor his age. Furthermore, a liberal is not an extremist but a "radical". Conservatives are the "extremists"; this is basic political vocab knowledge. The antichrist is supposed to claim he is God and perform miracles. I'm not sure, but I don't think Obama's done this yet.

Nor his religion. What makes me wonder is what sort of people that original e-mail was aimed at. I'd say evangelical Christians but I'm sure that most of them would know that Falwell said that the Antichrist would be a Jewish male, that most protestant theologians throughout history thought it would be a Pope or at least a Catholic, that the Left Behind movies use a man who speaks with a Russian/Eastern European accent or that the raptureready.com website said that the Antichrist would be a European who would use the EU to achieve world domination.

The people who would believe that Revelation clearly says that the Antichrist will be a Muslim have either lived under a rock for the better portion of their lives or they are willing to believe that so many other Christians who made a guess as to what the indentity of the Antichrist would be had never actually read the book of Revelation.
