It seams that no matter how hard I try it takes me forever to do anything. I can't picture things in my head and only when I can see things do I have MODEST ablitlity (still life). I would appreciate advice on good practice excerises and whether or not its ok to draw established characters to learn or if its a bad habit that inhibits creativity. Posted one of my old favorites, FLCL along with Death Note (jap version only english voice acting SUCKED!!!) have to be the only animes I actualy like. Again would love advice on how to draw faster and improve on imagery.

If you want results, you'll have to draw....then draw some more. When you're tired of drawing, draw. You hand falls off. Draw.

Drawing from life is a good start, it helps ingrain what's real into your head. That way you can pleasingly distort it when you want. When in doubt, put pencil to paper and make your thoughts come alive, however ugly they may be.

but I'd particularly like to stress the "draw from life" bit.
nothing helps improve your sketching speed than taking a sketchbook to the mall and attempting to render the people around you as accurately as possible. you'll have to be quick to catch detail and conservative in your strokes.

try it sometime, it's fun and it helps :]

Ehhhh.... I just doodle when I have nothing better to do.... Which happens a lot....
And I agree with the guy above, try to just people watch at the mall, theres nothing creepy about it :3
