Missed this part...

Well, 4GB of DDR2 cost me £45 ($75). DDR3 cost would have only cost me a tenner more. At the time, everyone was raving about how cheap DDR2 was, so I didn't even bother to research DDR3. Ah well, I'm not really ruing it, it's not like I do anything particularly crazy on my PC. I'm still using a 775 socket, dagnabbit, that just shows how far behind I am.

If someone is actually buying it off you for $30 then you are getting a good deal. I wouldn't give you 50 cents for a second hand HDD.

I have Windows 7 Professional up and running. The student download was a pain in the arse, you basically download (via a specified download manager) two nondescript files which self extract and try to auto install. After some Googling, I eventually found a solution on how to create an ISO, so now I actually have an install disk. Which is a bonus, as that actually allows me to have a proper clean install and not some overwrite which leaves a windows.old file.

Here's my WEI, which is totally useless, but it's Windows 7 launch day and this topic should be buzzing with excitement.

I got a fucking 5.5. My RAM is faster than yours, yet it gave me 5.5 on the RAM because of 2GB.

One week prior today my mother bought a laptop with Vista on it and threw out the upgrade coupon because she thought it was an advertisement.

That's still up for grabs on TPB and/or other torrents, right? Cause I'll grab a copy of the RC for my custom once I build it, and then get the full version when my mom upgrades her computer.

Guys, I need some help. Steam just got deleted offa my comp, don't know how. I just reconnected to the internet, and it said something alog the lines of "steam.exe" already exists, and deleted the program off. Whenever I try to open steam, it tries to run an installation, and tells me to insert a disk I don't have. I still have all of the file folders and all of my games (they won't run, of course), and I don't want to lose them. I'm planning to take out my steamapps folder from my steam folder, and then delete the steam folder. Then I'll donload steam again, but before I sign in, I'll replace the new steamapps folder with the old one, and then sign in, hoping for the best.

Should I do it like this, or are there other files I should save?

I took about a CD Drive, took the tray out, and painted it. I put it back together, hooked it up, and although the disc inside is spinning fine, my computer doesn't know I have a CD Drive plugged in. I even turned off PowerIso...whats the deal?

Yeah, except that the tray has nothing to do with the usb, and the computer would still recognize it's existence. If the tray was the problem, the error would be the disc could not be read.

But thanks for playing.

how long did you leave to paint to dry before putting the tray back in, and just incase you havent already checked. Is It plugged into both power and usb?, and did you try restarting your computer with the cd drive already on and plugged in???

I waited over night, it's dry. I put the tray BACK IN the drive, it wasn't wet.
I plugged in the power AND the usb, didn't show up. Restarted, didn't show up.
The drive still works, it spins the CD and the laser works and everything, it just isn't being recognized.
I took it apart again and checked all the wires to see if anything is loose, but it seems good.

Ok, so I need a laptop for college next year. Now, I cannot link you to the one I'm looking at because it was in the newspaper advermag thingys. It is:
An Acer, with AMD Athalon
3GB RAM
250GB hard drive
15.4 inch screen
It comes with Window 7 home premium pre-installed. It is $350 USD, from Staples.
It didn't give any more information.
The only gaming I might do is perhaps older games like Diablo 2 and Age of Mythology. Not exactly the highest system requirements out there. Good deal?

Thank you for any current and future serious replies.

It looks ok but you havent given us the proccesor speed which is annoying. But yes, anything with that spec should be fine for coursework and general internet browsing. It might play games but cant promise anything from intel intergrated graphics that that laptop is sure to have

I told you, that is all the information it gave me.
