This is where most of the Mac vs. PC ignorance comes into play.

"Macs run windows better than PC"

Ohlol. Obviously, a dual-core mac will run windows better than a P4 machine, the same way a quad core dell would hackintosh better than a Mac. When people compare the two, they always feel the need to pick a PC with terrible hardware. But it's really no surprise, because lately I've noticed that EVERYONE still owns computers from the Pentium 4 era.

You werent having a go at me there where you???

what you saying is true but no-body bothers to say what hardware they have anymore. it really is just "MACS are just better" from most people.

And yes everybody has hardware from 2 years ago because no-body needs blazing fast new hardware all the time to edit word documents and play flash videos

If it's a legit version, you absolutely should.

My girlfriend is a student, so I'm stealing her student credentials to snag myself a nice legitimate £30 copy of Win7 Pro.

I also pre-ordered two retail Home Premium versions when they were just under £50, so now I can put one on eBay for a reasonable profit.

I think I'm going to drop the PC laptop idea and get a Mac Book Pro. The battery life on them is supposedly way better. The case for the macbook pro is an aluminum shell carved out. I'm spending 2.25 grand for an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz, 4 MB ram, 500GB HD, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 256 dedicated, 15 inch macbook pro.

Cool thing about them is that you can go into a power saving mode which switches it to an integrated GPU. And you can partition the HD for windows and run windows separately (So the nasty windows viruses can't kill your computer). Once I found out I could run windows on it was what made me want one. The Mac OS is probably exactly what I need from a portable computer.

The only thing I don't like about it is that the battery isn't replaceable. I understand why they did it though, for more space in the laptop. I was a little less irked when they said you could go to an apple store and have it replaced.

I only have a grand saved up right now, but I think it will be worth the wait.

Today I'm going to an apple store to have sex with a few models. If they don't get me off I will probably drop the idea of spending way more money for something that just looks awesome.

The battery life isn't in the hardware as much as the OS. If you hackintosh a windows machine, you should get very similar battery life to a macbook pro. Putting OSX on a PC is against the Apple TOS, meaning you won't get support or security updates, but that's a very minor con compared to the money you save for not buying apple branding.

The case for the macbook pro is an aluminum shell carved out. I'm spending 2.25 grand for an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz, 4 MB ram, 500GB HD, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 256 dedicated, 15 inch macbook pro.

Overpriced, but go on.

Cool thing about them is that you can go into a power saving mode which switches it to an integrated GPU.

You can do that on any computer, it's called hybrid SLI.

And you can partition the HD for windows and run windows separately.

Again, Hackintosh.

(So the nasty windows viruses can't kill your computer).

Windows doesn't get viruses, idiots do.

The only thing I don't like about it is that the battery isn't replaceable. I understand why they did it though, for more space in the laptop. I was a little less irked when they said you could go to an apple store and have it replaced.

Except I'm willing to bet they charge profusely for that.

I only have a grand saved up right now, but I think it will be worth the wait.

Or you can buy a PC with similar hardware now and hackintosh it when you have the money for the OS. If you want to boot camp Windows on a macbook, you have to pay $200 for the extra operating system anyway, so why not dual-boot on a windows machine?

2.25 grand for a computer that's considered average spec wise, cool. They're not terrible but for $2250 I'd expect something a little bit better than an $800 Sony my mom bought a year ago, minus the gpu, but it's OSX so what use are you going to put any gaming capability to lmfao

Partitioning, what a brand new technology, copyright Apple

From a company that charges $900 for a 1920x1200 LCD monitor and $1200 for 8GB of fucking RAM have fun missing a car payment for your battery replacement

I only have a grand saved up right now, but I think it will be worth the wait.

I would be more reluctant to spend that much money on a fashion statement shit laptop than I would be to take a rake, insert the jagged end into my asshole and then remove my digestive system through my anus while thrusting my dick into a pencil sharpener and then pulling my testicles out via my belly button

$1200 for 8GB of fucking RAM

Quad Core Q6600 Intel overclocked to 3.2 Ghz || 4GB G.Skill DDR2 RAM || ATI Radeon HD4850 512MB || Gigabyte P45 mobo || Dual monitor 1680x1050 and 1920x1080 || A FUCKING MOUSE

No I legitimately fell in love with the Apple fashion statement and you guys helped.

I don't know whether to thank you or not, but I plan on maybe doing the hackintosh.

And yeah, I went to the apple store. All the employees were annoying and kept beating around the bush when I asked simple questions such as "Does the new Mac OS come with a word processor?" They finally showed me something called text edit after they could tell I was getting angry which was basically a slightly better version of notepad. I don't want to spend 50$ on iWorks, MA'AAAM!

I might still get one though because my parents are talking about helping me pay for one. My favorite color is white and I am a consumer whore so it's still a maybe JUST to avoid the trouble of trying to hackintosh. My parents happen to be trendy macfans ready to convert me at any sign of weakness. I also go to a University where its important to drink coffee and sit in the library pretending to do important work. So the mac will look cool in front of me.

I can get a student discount too. Which is nice. So it's actually 1,849.00 USD.

Sob. The other Uni in the city has this deal, while I have to pay £30 for it.

Anyway, question. Anyway to delete a partition from a Dual Boot Windows machine without having a lot of Bootstrap errors. I've had bad, but fixable, experiences trying to edit Ubuntu Partitions only to have the GRUB menu have a strop at me, forcing a reinstall of said Ubuntu over the area I was trying to edit anyway.

I currently have a C: and D: (Windows Vista Program Files and Documents respectively) but also added a W: (Windows 7 RC1). I can pick between C: and W: as the OS I want from the Bootstrap Splash page, but I'm just worried that if I change or delete my W:, due to the fact that I hardly use the W: and will probably upgrade to W7 Pro in a couple of weeks.

I know W7 Pro doesn't have a direct upgrade path from Vista Home Premium, but I would like the extra space back from the time period before I upgrade.

I bought two at the time, because the student discount wasn't available then. I can sell one of them on Ebay (probably for about £70, considering it is a retail version).

I suggest using the intel stock cooler to cool your balls on a hot day.

I was planning on getting 5770 CF, but my friend says it's much better to invest in a 5850, and if I ever see the need I can get another one.

It does sound nice, but 5770 CF compared to 5850 CF is 1200 PLN compared to 2000. What yall think?

That case doesn't look as appealing as it does on newegg :/ You're lucky you built your rig when you did though, I haven't seen DDR2 this expensive since I got into computers.

And Taco, it's always best to go with the most powerful single card solution you can afford. Get a 5850 and flash the bios so you can get clocks similar to the 5870.
