sorry gagsy but the cheapest i was able to make the core i7 build was about £750 without comprimising quality (going for cheap, no-name brands). If you want to go down to about £600 i recommend you get either an AM3 system or a LGA775 quad core as they are still good performers and cost a hell of a lot less

Lol, I had been searching for that case for a while but couldn't never find it. Either way, it's way too much of a overkill if you ask me - It's a case by Corsair!. Just get a Antec Twelve Hundred for £137.99 if you want basically a full tower case that is all black (Even the inside) and comes with six hefty fans inside stock.

As for the processor, I would get comfortable with a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550. To my experience - If you don't render 3d images and videos or have all of the CS4 Suite running at any given time, you don't really need a i7.

I don't see what everyone else does in that case. For one, it doesn't look too mod-able, and it's also profusely expensive when you consider what else you could buy for that money. For personal preference, I think I'd still rather have a nice Lian-Li. But even an antec 900 will be fine for gagsy.

Now there's something I can agree to. Even though intel isn't making any new processors for the 775 socket, it's still a very strong platform and will no doubt carry you for the next couple of years.

And Matt, I've decided that the only thing worse than an intel fanboy is an nvidia fanboy.

I don't like that Antec case. I don't like the grid style at the front and I'd rather not have a case that lights up like a Christmas tree everytime I have it on, especially at night when I leave my computer on.

Sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek is the key.

If you guys can remember back to when I need to RMA my EVGA motherboard, please do. You will recall that I had to pay a $45 fee to have my CPU socket repaired for "bent pins". Turns out, this is a long running scam they've been pulling, and I got gipped.

Never buy anything EVGA.

Hey guys. I have something in which you guys will be able to help me solve (Hopefully).

You see, I got myself a gaming computer, made it up myself and it runs like a dream. However, my friend came around and overclocked it for me. It went from a dual core at 2.50GHz to a dual core at 3.75GHz.

Now, I'm that type of person who wants more....All the time more more more (/sex jokes). So I was wondering...is there any way of getting this baby up to 4GHz? Below are my specs and a screenshot of the BIOs....(Taken with camera and resized dramatically, sorry for bad quality. Full pic can be found here)

I've given you the specs in which I think you may need....Any thing else that you need or recommend I do to squeeze every last drop of performance out of it...I will do so! :)

Motherboard: Gigabyte Ep31 - DS3L
Chipset: Intel P31/P35
Processor: Interl Pentium Dual - Core E5200 @ 2.5GHz
RAM: 2GB
Graphic: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Seris
OS: Vista Ultimate.

@ lizzardis, these are the settings to try that i think might work. oh and download memtest as well before you start

Fine CPU clock ratio : 0.0
CPU host frequency : 333mhz
System memory multiplier : closest you can get to the figure being 800
Then if you keep upping the CPU voltage in 2's every time it fails you should be on the right track.

Dont go over 1.5Volts and turn on those front fans

I've read about that specific board having FSB holes after 333mhz, so I think he should try for 4.2 with the 12.5 multiplier.

Also what kind of cooling do you have lizzardis? Idle and load temps?

ive tried two other boards and they both wont take over 4ghz on those chips. Its easiest if 333mhz dosent work to go slighty lower to maybe 330mhz. I still wouldnt recommend going any higher than 12X on the cpu multiplier as it puts more strain on the cpu which is better left to the chipset which was designed to handle it

So should I try your idea TSF?

Also what kind of cooling do you have lizzardis?

Arctic cooling freezer 7 pro

Idle and load temps?

Well now on my computer....I'm just browsing the web, messenger is up and I'm watching a movie.

The processor temp : 28C
Motherboard temp: 26C
Core 1: 33C
Core 2: 40C

Good news everyone!

AMD is preparing an AM3 variant of it's server 6-cores. This is huge news, because I heard that intel's 6 cores would be extreme edition only, aka $1000. Price/performance is so win.

By too thick do you mean that it is a double slot cooler attached to the graphics card, because it should fit if that was the case. All you have to do is remove one of the metal panels below where your graphics card should go.

And it should just fit when you close the case because it shouldnt be any thicker than the hdd cage.

Of course, you can buy a cheaper case but then it's going to look like trash and be a Russian whore to work with. You live in the ghetto by any chance?

Even though intel isn't making any new processors for the 775 socket

Don't you keep up with the computer world; Intel will be completely abandoning the 775 by 2011 and don't plan to even release any chips for the socket next year. Now it's all about the 1156 and 1366.

Server processors are priced at a premium in the first place so it doesn't matter. Corporations and businesses that need a lot of raw computing power will always go after the chips that promise to deliever the most performance rather than what's priced slightly lower.

Didn't AMD announce in the beginning of the year they only plan to be able to compete with Intel's 2008 Core i7s by 2011? This gives a nice unbias three-year look into the future for both companies that spells nothing but tears and suffering for AMD.

Socket 775 is a now a very cheap platform for anybody looking for a decent gaming computer to last for several years without any major upgrades. For example, the people that buy a whole new computer every 3 - 4 years instead of upgrading every six months

I do agree here though, It isnt looking good for AMD as there constantly behind in terms of R&D, even if they did break the 1ghz barrier first or come out with a dual core product ahead of intel!!!

Because maybe TSF, he wants to try and have an argument with you. Or maybe he just can't get over the fact that that is all you want to do....Just discuss about things. Maybe he is a user who wants to have a raging argument with everyone who doesn't back up his points or doesn't see things his way....0.o

Okay, second try at a request for a computer.

I need help picking out parts for a computer. there's a certain website i wanna use so can you guys use this PC builder? then hit preview and the item list should show up.

what i want is a fast computer that costs up to 1200 canadian (can go slightly higher). it needs to be able to run multiple programs without slowing down too much (or at all if possible), such as flash, google chrome, MSN, skype, and a few other programs. also must be able to run crysis without slowing down too much. i don't need a monitor, speakers, keyboard or mouse.

if there's one part i would like, i want the Antec nine hundred mid tower gamer case.

thanks, guys

Sig made by me

Hey guys, need some help here.

Today I went with my dad to a place where they sell computers which are good cheap.

I bought a computer which was like a XEON 3.0ghz dual core 4gb ram and a ATI graphics card.

We're having a problem with the drivers though, and we can't find the download for the motherboard driver as it is discontinued, the model we need to find is the Asus NCT-D ATX E7525.

Tomorrow we're going back to the store to see if either they can help or they can swap it for one we saw the same price and the same stuff, just with a Nvidia graphics card and motherboard is dell or something so it will be easier to get the drivers. Providing they let us swap.

Anyway without this motherboard driver I can't connect to the internet either, so any tips?

A motherboard so rare Asus doesn't have it on it's own website. And how cheap are you talking, because I can almost promise you're still being raped for money as opposed to building.

It's on the site the downloads however aren't recognized by the computer, and we've tried about 10 files we transferred from the USB and none are true.

And it was £160, and the description says;

2x XEON 3.0Ghz
4GB - 250GB
DVDRW
256MB ATI X1300

And the guy said the casing was pretty swish as well. And we're going back tomorrow to check if we can either swap or if they can help, however I'd prefer this one.
