What's the point in have 6 cores if hardly anything take advantage of 4 cores? Especially if 8 are "hyper threading" (quad and i7). I guess its a chip for music editors and graphics designers?

That last comment is absolutely correct and I'm a heavy multi-tasker that will actually do more if he just has more power to do it with. It's correct that there aren't many programs that can take advantage of its 6 cores simutaneously but you are also missing the fact that Intel makes processors that are capable of carrying out a lot more sets of instructions than maybe a company like AMD, which is also the reason why they keep staying ahead of the pack.

Those 6-cores will have some improved memory controllers, shrink size, amount of cache and new instructions that it can execute. Also, for those who don't know; the 6-cores will have the same LGA1366 sockets as the i7s today so if prices for motherboards continue to drop, than by the time the 6-cores will come around, a really good mobo will be possible to be pick upped for probably as little as 200$.

And finally; there are programs out there that have already been written to be able to sync work among up to 128 cores. Oh man, add another 9800GTX, a Rampage II, 6GB DDR3-2000, RAID Controller, Liquid cooling system, Another Samsung 24" and another 1TB for RAID. Sick.

Once again, I do it for the bettering and benefit of people who take the time to read it. No need for thank yous.

AKA: WHAT PROGRAMZ R U UZIN' WIT 6 COREZ?

How's Autodesk 3DSMax 2010 or Autodesk AutoCad LT 2009. Windows 7 will have great support for it and making sure to utilize it the best out of any other OS out there. I know Linux has been getting some tune ups under the hood and finally being able to utilize 128 cores with its latest 9.06 installment.

Many of Adobe's Masterclass of suits for CS4 can utilize not just a lot of cpu cores but also the gpu that should be doing all the work to begin with (Considering that it's responsible for bit-map mesh rendering and algorithms and if you think about it; those are basically the most important and challenging components to handle within the program.

I would also like to watch a 1080P movie playing while I have msn and Firefox opened up on two displays. I can sort of do it already with my current set-up but if I want to move windows or go any more steps further into stressing the processor, it will eventually start becoming very slow.. and I don't like that.

Because the new chips will be able to carry out more complete instructions in every cycle (Lets say an average processor would do like 4 in every cycle, well this thing would do like 18) and have the large aid of having 12 completely opened threads, there is a sickening amount of power there. Because it's also smaller shrink size as already mentioned, the memory controller is smaller and faster, the amount of cache is nearly doubled and the gates still work fine with such narrow circuit paths

And surprisingly, the size of the transistors and gates inside the chips are exponentially coming to their tipping points of not being able to allow atoms to cross their paths without flying out and causing a unreliable processor. Lukily they will most likely change the materials they change, such as Silicone to Graphene which will apparently allow us to go even smaller and further to the ultimate goal of making a 1nm chip (Silicone can't allow anything smaller than 16nm to function properly).

There are also a few other g_d materials that apparently will change the computing world forever but I don't remember what they were anymore. I want a quantum computer, that's for sure. For those who don't know what it is, watch this video and be amazed. Link. I'm going to sleep.

Don't you only have a C2D? If so, a quad would probably handle that fine, no need for i7.

How do you think I feel trying to compile 1600p media while downloading porn?

You're too kind, serial. Think of me as a kid that is about to turn 18, is moving out of Canada to Poland and does nothing but think all day and hypocrites everything he says. And I'm doing my final grade 12 exams this week, so I'm basically done high school.

I just enjoy it when someone takes the time to type out all their thoughts and explain most everything. Even though that quantum computer link destroyed half my brain.
Wow, so are you going to some Polish college? Only 17 and a senior? Im 17 and I'm a junior =(
But you'll be 18 soon so I guess you're technically a year older than me.

So, how did you get into computers and where do you get your info? I usually browse overclock.net and if I see something I don't get, I google it.

EG. just the other day I googled what RAID meant, and now I have a grasp on it. But still have yet to actually DO it yet, seeing as how I have a single 640GB HDD. I guess that's something someone with tons of little SDD drives would do?

I get my info from sites and than think about it a lot.. my dad use to give me a lot of pointers and facts because he did a collage course for being a Network Administator and now he's pretty pro.

Almost every sort of person does it to some sort of different degree. As mentioned previously, I'm already dead set on to create a RAID when I purchase my next 1TB finally. Gamers do it, power users do it, scientists do it, data companies do it, bunch of people.

You think Poland sucks, if you were old enough to remember Canada, you wouldn't be regretting it. Aside from the fact that I'm getting a Benz for a car and a home to live in that will be twice of what I am in currently; the education there rocks and I can make easy money with my bilingual abilities. Also, I'm going to be 18 and that implies that I will be able to do what I have been doing all this time; legally and without the bother of the concern of my dad. Canada blows, kid; don't come here.

Heyyy. I've been looking for a new computer for quite some time now and I have to say it's very complex. 'Don't use this memory board with an NVIDIA card or it'll burn your house down!' I congratulate each and everyone of you who dare take on the chalange of researching and building a rig.

The main reason I posted though is I found this. I think it's a very good deal and I could probably chop off $100 if I find my own keyboard and mouse. I'm surprised with the results of the graphics card. So I figure perfect! It'll be good for another 5 years! So I come to this fine establishment to ask if it is indeed, a good deal. Or any tweaks on it? I'm not looking for a god computer. In fact, I'm trying to stay behind a generation to keep cheap.

I would call it relatively easy. Everything is difficult at start, it's at the end that it matters and in comparison to other hobbies, this would be in the middle of the spectrum. I would also highly suggest any under the ages of 13 of not even bothering to enter this sport for the sake of the elderly having to deal with endless stream of irrelevant questions and due to the fact that one needs a large sum of money and being reckless and over confident typically leads to seeing smoke rise from a piece of hardware that some parent just paid five bills for.

I give it 2.5 years, if not just 2 for staying to standards for the best games to be released. Pick up a 9800GTX as also shown in those charts of you will be more than fine playing 95% of the hottest and most modern titles available today. And for the love of god; don't fall into the mind set that you need an awesome processor to play games; it helps but relatively anything from the last 5 years will do more than fine.

Getting a 250 is definitely not staying behind a generation, coincidentally; a 9800 would fit the bill here as well.

Everything here was necessary to have been mentioned so don't bash me.

Ok. Ok. Here it goes. i went on to google and bing (which...is nice.) and really no other site gives good deals like NewEgg. So I went through the pages and these are some of the parts I'm thinking of

PROCESSOR
Option 1 & option 2.
COOLENT SYSTEM
Option 1 & option 2
POWER SUPPLY
Quite possibly, maybe?
GRAPHICS CARD
NVIDIA 9800 GTX? Maybe I'll pick it up from Best Buy...
MOTHERBOARD
This depends on everything else, right?
SYSTEM DRIVE
Should I go with Blu-Ray or DVD?

The optical drive, monitor, keyboard and mouse can all wait. So did I leave anything out? Ooooor is picking computer components not a good idea for me?

A celeron? I know this is suppose to be a budget build but that processor won't do you any good; besides, the fan you want to buy for it nearly costs as much as the cheap itself. Get this instead: Intel Pentium E5200.

If you make the smart move and pick Intel, take this board: GIGABYTE GA-G41M-ES2L.

SYSTEM DRIVE
Should I go with Blu-Ray or DVD?

Blu-ray is useless because you can easily BitTorrent 1080p movies and to the disks used for burning are like a buck each. The drives are around 110$ and the burners are around 250$. Make the ethical choice and spend 23$ on a quality DVD/CD burner.

The optical drive, monitor, keyboard and mouse can all wait. So did I leave anything out?

Not really, games just aren't that big yet, and at any rate, if they do, there'll be DVD versions of them for a long time to come. No worries there.

Your PC is more likely to be outclassed before you need a Blu-Ray drive.

Also, Bestbuy sells 9800s for around $150, where newegg has them for a bit cheaper.

And Matt youre right on the blu ray, but it's pretty useless without a nice screen. I have a 1080p and although its good, it isnt HIGH DEFINITION AMAZING good, and so all movies pretty much look the same...

A PSU is the Power Supply Unit, or your power. And for the case, you can either get a Mid Tower for basic needs, or a Full Tower which is usually $150+ and has a lot more room, but takes up a lot of space.

Are you looking for a cool looking case with lights and a window? Or just some cheap metal box?
