My Astros obviously used up all their luck against the National League (to get to the playoffs), the Atlanta Braves (that 18th inning game, for one thing), and the St. Louis Cardinals (overcoming that 3-run Pujols blast in game 5 to win in game 6 didn't just take the talent of Roy Oswalt, it took luck and determination and a whole lot of energy that was gone afterwards)...

I don't think they had any left when they faced the White Sox. Whereas the White Sox had a lot of the same magic (such as from that AJ play against the Angels in game 2)... a hit-by-pitch that was actually a bat-hit-by-pitch... and other such calls. But mostly a lot of great play, lucky "balls hit right to fielders" effect, and talented pitching and timely hitting.

Astros had lots of all those things as well, just not as much. Hence.... 2-run loss, 1-run loss, 2-run loss, 1-run loss.

Tight, tight games. Much closer than 4-0 would indicate. And thus a good series, overall. :::tips cap to X-Naut, one of the good White Sox fans out there::: Go stick it in the Cubs' faces, BTW. Yes, the two extra (well, three were extra, but one I wanted, the other two not-so-much... you know what I mean #;-}>) saves have been gone since Wade deleted them on 10/13 (less than a week after I retired).

So, is yaya12 in Fixit mode now? He's not gained one single point since September. Noticed the list is getting more members there gfox. I wonder when the day will come when you have to have a 3x10k stat just to be on the list.

Actually, he gained one save the same day I got my accident saves. Must have voted on one of the same whistled flashes as I did (to protect it) shortly before he stopped voting in September. So yeah, overall, he pulled a fixit.

Top 50 exp impossible, reviews easy, blams about 20,000 will do it, save 9,000 and posts I dont know but well over 10k. So the top50 is you have to have one stat in the top 50.

Web Pentalist Mark XXXVIII is uploaded and available.

And back up to three new members we go. At first it was just going to be two (for a nice 55 members on the list this update)... but I noticed that AZPunisher was at 9992 saves earlier... and then I went back and checked on him about halfway through updating the data for the 53 pentalist members as of last week... and he'd moved up to 9993... and then 9994. And by the time I was done pulling all the data... he was up to 9998. And then he (and gfoxclock, and everyone else on the portal) stalled... due to the lack of SAVES, damnit. Portal went to crap, essentially... There's been nothing but blams for over an hour or so... I saw him gain about 8 blams, as did gfoxclock on the same flash entries, so... I took pity on the poor bastard and added him two saves (but left his blams where they were back around 11:30 PM EDT (BTW... goodbye, daylight savings!)).

Thus, I fudged him up to 10k on the saves (but I've done that before, as many of you may already know... though I don't like to do it often). He gained 6 saves in around 2 hours and it's not his fault the flash authors started submitting unprotectable stuff. ;_;

So... anyway, he'd better not let me down by failing to get those 2 saves later tonight/later on Sunday! That's all I've got to say about that. #;-}>

Toocool and wismty made it days ago, thankfully, so there was no borderline call there. Welcome to all threes of ya, yo.

Who said anything about top 50 exp?

When I say that "top 50" is one way of trimming this list if it ever gets too hard to update, I mean I would CROP THE PENTALIST at 50 users, foolio. IOW, if I were to do it right now, we wouldn't have 56 members, we'd have 50. The 6 people under 50 would be out of luck.

They'd still be on my spreadsheet, of course, and I would be tracking them to make sure none of them got ahead of anyone in the top 50 (in which case they would swap spots, just like people used to do around #500 on my top 500 VP list), but... I would still be keeping track of 0x10k and 1x10k people as well... and now 2x10k people who don't have enough total points to be in the top 50.

So it really wouldn't be all that easier, except that it would make the list updating a BIT quicker. I think 3x10k would speed up the updating a lot more, since I could pretty much ignore the 0x10ks and just worry about tracking the 1x10kers becoming 2x10k and the 2x10kers breaking in to the 3x10k...

I would be even more reliant upon people like Bahamut7 telling me about users I might not already know about, though. That's gonna happen either way, though, as more and more new users I've never seen before (because I don't post on or read 99.99% of the BBS) start getting high blams, posts, etc. really quickly.

You're right, of course... I really blew that one. But Mark 37 WAS my first flat +70 (hopefully the lowest gain I EVER have on a pentalist again, unless of course I do another shift-to-Sunday, shift-back-to-Saturday list-update-day movement again, in which case I'll have a +80 and a +60... but that doesn't really count for a full 7-day update as usual).

Well, my predictions came true, gfox. I knew I wasn't going to pass up anybody, since EK was still on a better pace than me. I don't know if I'll be passing anybody for next week, either. It would take me a lot of points for that to happen, since the two people in front of me put up some decent numbers every week.

First time since late August... that'd be more than 2 months ago now. We had 9 straight weeks/updates with at least one new member (and twice it was THREE new members, once it was TWO... the rest were just one, but that's still better than none). IOW, we underwent an expansion phase for just over 2 months in which the list expanded by 14 members (from 42 to 56).

That phrase is over, alas. But I'm sure we will have little growth spurts here and there in the coming weeks. The burst we had for the past two months is over, though.

On the plus side, X-Naut hit 10k exp (congrats!) and is now triplelisted. That makes 15 3x10kers, a group I am proud to count myself amongst. OUR RANKS ARE SWELLING EVEN AS WE SPEAK, MWAHAHAHA.... erm.

So anyway, enjoy the list update, all. It's a fairly uneventful one aside from X-Naut doing his thin and Newgrundling being a madman in the pointgain department, but it's an update nonetheless.

Oh, and... 10 weeks ago this lil' thing didn't exist, so for the first time ever since it began:

Interestingly enough, there are some cases where alternate ways of making the same number are possible (look at watches/clocks that have IIII instead of IV for an example)... but in general, XXXX = not the good way of writing it, that's what XL is for. Different Romans in different times used their numerals in different manners, though. At one point, people probably DID write XXXX.

Maybe so, maybe so. But you can pass both KWAS and EKR pretty soon if you don't slack off too much. After that, it gets a bit tougher for ya, but the beauty of this list is just being on it, yanno. Don't stress too much about getting to the top of the heap.

Your 950-1000 range consistency = a lock for bronze or silver on the insane weeks and on some weeks it would nab you a gold. You've just had bad luck of it with Denvish and Newgrundling being so active over the past few months between the two of 'em shuttin' you down... that won't last forever (will it?!).
