I had a pretty good pace this month, mainly due to clock day. And I passed two more users which is nice. Now only three more until I reach the top 50. And the gap doesn´t even seem to be that big between me and Voidist. But I gotta go back to school again next week, so I expect my pace to drop drastically.

Still, we'll see. The review section of the lit portal will be the thing to watch. If the reviews start to become like blog comments, then we've gone to hell.

If there's a good cluster of lit portal reviewmods in place, hopefully that fate can be averted.

Eh. It's not like it's a full game. It's like an ep 1 or ep 2 for HL2, only it's not even that important because you don't care as much about individual GTA plots as you do about Half-Life's arc plot. Or at least... you shouldn't, if you're a fan of both series. HL plot = matters. GTA plot = discarded when they switch cities again (which is often).

I still wish to get them nonetheless, but of course, I need to have a 360 in order to get them. I just like bonuses, that's all. Again, I'm still unsure as to which platform I'll get GTA4 on.

Eh, didn't say there was anything wrong with it. If I could easily (and cheaply) buy the Lost and the Damned for my Steam PC version of GTA4, I would probably do so. Similar to how I'll probably end up getting some (if not all) of the FO3 DLC at some point.

It is, it's even shorter when you skip all the cutscenes. Then again, so were MGS1 - 3. All fantastic games and longer than Portal (gameplay time-wise) nonetheless.

Well, Portal is judged upon different merits than most games. Does MGS4 have as many fun, challenging sidegames/minigames as Portal? I refer to the least-time, least-steps, and least-portals challenge modes, plus the advanced maps. If you add in all of those things, I'll bet Portal is longer than MGS4, from the sounds of it. Without need of any cutscenes to pad the length. #;-}>

Anyway, I've only played MGS1, and it felt long enough to me, but I wasn't skipping cutscenes. If I were to replay it and skip cutscenes, I might change my view.

Portal was plenty long, especially in light of the extra/more challenging side stuff I mentioned above... plus, it was part of the HL universe, and that makes anything cooler than the same length of gametime in another stupid gameworld. #;-}>

That's just comparing them in a different way. If it were games themselves, MGS4 would be longer, even if you cut all the cutscenes.

Have you ever replayed MGS1? I'd say that game has great replay value since every time I want to play MGS4, I'm always beating it at least twice to view both endings.

Awesome! I entered the top 50 total stats =) I had a pretty good pace this month too. I wonder why though, I actually thought I wouldn't do too well with summer holiday being over and all. For the upcoming month I expect to do even better. I got a lot of days off to study for upcoming exams, plenty of time to visit NG in between.

Thanks to the three titans of Newgrounds past and present that I've passed now - Ehwaz003, schneelocke and bila. Thanks also to iscrulz, but it's hard to get excited about that.

Looks like I'm on for a few milestones before the next update, as well - 20k Exp; 23k Blams and 16k Posts. I hope that the review numbers will climb suitably as well. I'm still too low to start dreaming of 10k, but you never know what the future holds.

That appears to be a horrible movie, yes, especially awful considering the talent level of the actors the horrible writing ended up wasting... but I feel like the 23 minutes I just spent watching his review were possibly just as wasted as 23 minutes spent watching 1/4 (I'm assuming it's ~90 minutes long) of that movie.

I don't enjoy his reviewing style. He's one part Mr. Cranky from 1990s internet fame, and two parts MST3K, but with far less charm and funniness than either. And he mispronounced Julia Louis-Dreyfus. It's not "Lewis," it's "Louise." Jeeeez.... Where was HE during the 90s, anyway? Seems to know about Seinfeld's characters, but never heard one of the main four actors' names pronounced out loud before? O_o

Not that Tom Fulp intended our profiles to only be used for one narrow use, but... the newspost system within them is already being used for a wide variety of uses that he couldn't possibly have foreseen, yanno?

Well, Portal is judged upon different merits than most games. Does MGS4 have as many fun, challenging sidegames/minigames as Portal?

Do they really matter? What matters is the game itself.

Of course they matter. Sidegames and minigames and other such things add to replayability, add to potential challenge/difficulty, and add to the variety of gameplay styles present in a game.

If they're in the game, they're in the game. They ARE the game itself, dude. The game is more than the sum of its plot. Come on, now, surely you know that.

A game is not a book. Portal is not just the storyline of the main SP mode. It is also the wacky shit you can do without following the plot, the crazy things you have to do for some of the tougher achievements (that aren't gotten automatically by playing the game "normally"), and the challenge/puzzle modes you do (usually) after you've finished the plot mode!

I refer to the least-time, least-steps, and least-portals challenge modes, plus the advanced maps. If you add in all of those things, I'll bet Portal is longer than MGS4, from the sounds of it. Without need of any cutscenes to pad the length. #;-}>

That's just comparing them in a different way. If it were games themselves, MGS4 would be longer, even if you cut all the cutscenes.

Anyway, I've only played MGS1, and it felt long enough to me, but I wasn't skipping cutscenes. If I were to replay it and skip cutscenes, I might change my view.

Have you ever replayed MGS1? I'd say that game has great replay value since every time I want to play MGS4, I'm always beating it at least twice to view both endings.

Yes, I've replayed MGS1 once. I've also replayed Portal once (the plot part, I mean). I enjoyed my replay of Portal more. :::shrugs:::

No but some games can be too short, though and Portal is very much so. Those challenges don't do enough justice. We need a Portal sequel, not a Left 4 Dead sequel. Dammit, it's reasons like why I'm beginning to hate Valve more and more.
