Are you talking the 1978 version?

The 50's one was good but 70's remake was excellent!

Evil Dead, Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn, and Army of Darkness (Its evil dead III, idk why its called that)
Halloween series, my favs are 1, 2, and 3, even though most people hate 3 because its so different from the others, I can just remember me and my friend skipped school on halloween and watched Halloween 3 and at Capn Crunch. so good memories. But yeah, those all kick ass.

After a staggering 30 minutes of staring at the eggs and hasbrown so poorly made, i start my prayers to god, hoping that the next time i open my eyes, the food will be gone.

I suggest you just watch the first Nightmare on elm street, and maybe the third one, and then the rest if you want some laughs.

You don't understand psychological horror movies I suppose. Slasher films simply aren't scary. I found Rosemary's baby much more scary than the ones you mentioned. It's more subtle. It helps to have half a brain though, when watching them.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I've seen most of the movies listed here but there's a couple that I haven't. I'll definitely pick up Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween. If you have any more movies that you know, feel free to list them.

Just a couple things that I wanted to comment on while reading the replies. Audition is definitely a scary film. It's not really a "horror" movie like slashers and so on, but it's one of the few movies that really creep me out. The first and second act of Audition is just a buildup to the last act and that's when the movie truly delivers. That line she gives always gives me goosebumps. You know what I'm talking about...

I saw the 50's version. It's good...how should I explain this...it's good, but only if you're into the 1950's horror style (black and white, not the most "scary", etc.)

The Shining is the only horror film which has ever truly terrified me.

The Birds (Alred Hitchcock) is also another classic you should see. Forget the modern trash that regularly churns out.

The thing that made The Birds really creepy was that actually happened a while back.

It's such a great film. Supremely better than crap such as House of Wax or The Grudge.

This man speaks the truth.

John Carpenter's 1982 version of The Thing has become a cult classic among horror fans. I believe the main reasons are lack of digital enhancement (which has been grossly overused), great storyline and cinematography (rare footage these days), and a solid cast of actors.

Anything by John Carpenter shits all over the entire SAW franchise...and then mutates and spews forth realistic effect intestines.

Hey... I like the SAW movies. Granted the writers slacked off in SAW II but they picked up the pace in part III and IV.

Tell me the ice block trap in part IV didn't leave your jaw hanging open. ;-)

Big Mamma's House! (Shutter) One "Black Guy pretends to be a fat woman" comedy is enough to scare anyone into a death fright!

But seriously, Nightmare on Elm Street is a classic that shouldn't be ignored.

I don't consider the Evil Dead films scary. Creepy at times? Yes. Funny? Oh yeah. The creepiest scene out of all three was towards the end of Evil Dead. I won't spoil it, but putting yourself in his situation freaks you out.

Here's my list:

1. Noroi - its on youtube. WATCH IT. I guarantee it will freak you the fuck out.
2. The Fly (80's version) - more sci/fi-horror than pure horror, but it's an awesome movie.
3. Dead Silence - not that scary, but the plot and the awesome filter work make it a great halloween movie.
4. Halloween (Rob Zombie remake)
5. Gravedancers
6. Black Sheep - funny and freaky at times
7. The Thing

I agree with evil dead thing, but still EVERYONE should see all 3.

I'm going to smoke a bowl and watch noroi, I better not be disappointed. -_-

-Aliens or Alien
-High Tension
-The Descent
-The Thing

If you can get a good copy, Nosferatu. Something about the 20's style of camerawork and the way he moves is just eerie as hell. Scarier than a lot of horror today. Youd dig it

Green Mile, Ichi the killer, and Battle Royale are not horror films. Green Mile is a drama film, Ichi the killer is a violent comedy or something, and Battle Royale is a drama/thriller.
Rosemary´s baby is boring as hell and i have no idea how anyone could consider a single bit of it scary.
