For building actual strength, weight lifting.
Pushups only heavily exercise 2 muscles, whilst weakening a couple others. Weight lifting can work any and every muscle.

A pushup should take 4 seconds. You're doing them really quickly and with bad form, expect no gains.

I fail pretty hard at pushups, although I'm slightly above average in strength for my size. I actually don't participate in any strenuous activity whatsoever so it's surprising I'm not an over-weight weak piece of shit.

It depends what you're trying to build. I prefer weight lifting because I can go for longer but my pecs kinda fail lol

Weight lifting, but it all depends.
push ups build chest, a part of the arms, shoulders, tune and some stamina.
Weights can build mass faster by pushing your weight limit, or you can tune by repetition with light weights.
one draw back is stamina, your not as strong as you like to think, like a miner or wood cuts can beat you at everything just because or their hard job, althou you have more power their just better and can out last you.
so repetition, endurance and free weights, try to train ever muscle in your body.
also repetition can also build mass, but it will hart alot.

I used to do both... weight lifting seemed to have a more prominent effect on my physique, but of course that requires going to a gym and whatnot... For stay-at-home fitness, push-ups are your friend.

You use different muscles when you lift weights and do push ups.
Lifting weights uses your biceps while push up uses your pecks.
