My account is American but I live in the UK, so can I buy a code from a game shop here and use it? Will it work?
This doesn't belong in the video games forum, because I haven't mentioned anything about video games.

I think it will work. I do not suggest buying full XBOX games (Arcade is fine) off of the XBOX Live Marketplace though - I did it once with Fable and it did not work.

It doesn't work.Trust me,I know this from experience.It won't even work if you buy it in Canada and use it in the states.

Nah, I linked my credit card to a free UK silver account on my xbox then I buy things on that, then it works for all the accounts on my xbox ;)

Basically: You're screwed on getting games here. You could ship them, or get it chipped so it can play both US and UK PAL games, but overall:
YOU SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN A BLOODY UK VERSION INSTEAD!!

My xbox is from the UK, my gamertag is American though.
