It's not a horror, it's a thriller with blood and gore.
In a horror film, the music adds to suspense. Saw just shows them dying.
Boy you sure refuted my argument that Saw is horrible by delving in to the spectrum of semantics.
Fine, then I'll take over. Saw's plot (all 4 combined) starts with John Kramer having his unborn son accidentally killed by a drug addict/thief. John Kramer seeks justice on him, and all others who live an unworthy life. He puts them in a situation that the person can decide to either sit there and die a horrible death, or somehow mutilate themselves to survive. And if you pay attention closely to all of the movies, he has a personal connection to every one of his test subjects somehow, usually through his ex-wife's clinic.
However, as a cancer patient, he is dying, and tries to find accomplices to continue his work after he dies.
The movie's aims are to make you think one thing, and challenge it throughout the movie, only to give you a complete surprise at the end. Saw has a strong plot. Something all horror movies lack. If you would actually watch the movies, you would know that instead of making sweeping generalizations on it based on the torture scenes that make up a minority of the movies.
