Plz.. you're not joking. This sort of thing is funny. You knew going in this that you weren't exactly going to win for sure, and there was a chance for you to lose. Just because you participate doesn't mean you'll win.. I spent almost two days on mine, but, whatever, I'll try again some other time. Sore losers....

I just have one thing to say about this competition.

When do the calendars go on sale? I wants one. Just so I can sit there hating it.

It's finished, but if you look closely some areas go to shit, which is a bit of a fail if you add details. But I'm proper psyched to get something in the next competition, as always! Glad you've got something, jagon, and thanks for fighting my ring, Wazza.

I thought I would post this just so people know my reasoning, at least, for why certain pieces are on certain months. I think you'll see that there was some pretty good thought put into the placement of most of the pics:

1. January: Poxpower's castle crashing the beard - At the beginning of each year, every 13 year old NGer looks down and says "this year will be the year I grow some pubes."

2. February: Tripping Metal's "There she is" - Valentine's day = classic story of forbidden love...need I say more?

3. March: Nathaniel Milburn's B&W theater - This one had a lot of subtle greens so it fits right in with St. Patrick's day

4. April: Buzzwerd's Tom & Luis lovers - This month is Tom's birthday, so his secret love affair needed to be featured.

5. May: Savory's Foamy and Germaine Nurse - This month is mothers day, so we know everyone will be thinking of nurses and getting shots

6. June: HotDiggedyDemon's "Jerry" - Jerry is so hot right now, will he still be hot in June when the sun is high overhead?

7. July: Underarock's "On the Moon" - This one is red - warm colors = hottest month of the year.

8. August: Lalo's Spam-fest - This month is clock-day so a spam theme is perfect you must admit

9. September: Myhatisblue's madness piece - This was the best madness piece and this is madness month...MADNESS!

10. October: Pikanjo's Tankmen - So heavily orange and black, it screams halloween

11. November: Jagondudo's Painterly Mix - This reminded me of a cornucopia of NG characters, which fits perfect for thanksgiving, plus the color choices are very autumny - perfect for November.

12. December: Sucho's Christmas BR - This is the only pick we made that's obviously holiday-themed, so it only made sense to put santa's stocking in December.

This post probably frustrated you even more if you didn't win, but I thought it important for people to know some of the reasoning behind the month-placement so you could tell how much we agonized over the choices :)

There's a reason there's only 1 really clearly holiday-themed one that won. We didn't want the cheese of holiday-themed stuff...seems to really undercut the creativity of NG art, the BR one was just too good not to include

so yeah, believe me, you had a much better chance of winning with a non-holiday piece than with a holiday-themed one. We chose the winners, THEN arranged them by month...their month-appropriateness was not really a factor in their winning, just in where they were placed at the end.

Yeah, we loved the penicorn one, but sucho already won, plus these calendars need to be safe for work cubicle hangings (someone even mentioned they couldn't buy it if that piece made it in)...perhaps it will be included as an easter-egg somewhere though...you never know ;)

I know everybody who didn't win is disappointed, which is good, because that shows that you're human, and luckily, Big Brother hasn't outlawed emotions...yet. But, now's a good time to get involved with some other art activities going on at Newgrounds right now. A couple of really cool art collabs are going on at the moment, and have been overshadowed by the calendar contest, so, if you still want to see your art viewed and appreciated by thousands of Newgrounds users, then you really should check them out and contribute.

I know that nothing quite compares to seeing yourself on the Newgrounds calendar, but, if your work is really good in the collabs, then you can get co-author status, and you're pretty much assured that the flash is going to get some kind of daily award. That's quite a feather to have in your cap, and, if you're like me and have no flash or programming skills, this is about the only way that you will be able to get that kind of recognition.

Metropolis Disaster Art Collab

This is McJesus' project, and he really got the short end of the stick when it came to the calendar contest, because it basically caused all work on this collab to stop dead. Anyway, it's coming back to life but it really need your help. All you have to do is draw a monster (any kind!) destroying a city. All mediums are welcome - if you're doing flash, you need to leave the background blank - if you're doing traditional hand drawn art, then you're going to have to come up with a background yourself. Deadline is November 30th, from what I understand, and McJesus is looking for people to credit as co-authors.

Propaganda Collab '09

This is Vouiselle's little project; the last one turned out really well, so I can only imagine that this one is going to be great too. Rules are a little more strict on this one - needs to be in the stle of a propaganda poster, and there's a limit of one entry per person. Good news is that the deadline for this project isn't until April '09, or something like that, so for people who complained that the 2 week deadline for the calendar contest wasn't enough and didn't submit anything, you have no excuse this time around.

Also, for anybody who thinks that Newgrounds is corrupt and it's all about who you know, then this collab is for you, because Vouiselle is really heavily invested in featuring good artwork in his collab, so I doubt that he's gonna care if you've got 1 post or 1,000.

Dr. Seuss Collab

That's not the official name, but anyway, this is ReNaeNae's brainchild; the basic idea is to get a bunch of writers and artists together to come up with Dr. seuss and Mother Goose style stories and illustrations (I'm assuming with the typical Newgrounds spin on things) and to pick an official day in January to release the work - so basically like Clock Day or Madness Day.

So yeah, talk about an opportunity to be a part of Newgrounds history - if you join up for this you can get your own Newgrounds holiday!

Last I check this was still in the planning stages, and ReNaeNae needs to hear if people are interested or not before it goes further, so go to the Art Forum Lounge Thread and tell her you're interested.

Also, I guess ReNaeNae mentioned this idea in the writers club/crew thread, and they basically blew her off; so, let's show those elitist assholes that the art forum doesn't need them anyway!

So... I wasn't kidding. I want one. When do they go on sale? Is it going to be announced anywhere? What section of the store will it be in?

Not sure what section of the store they'll be in or even how much they're gonna cost, but hopefully they will be available by the end of next week! I can only 'assume' there will be an announcement, but I'll definitely be posting a link here (unless someone beats me too it! lol).

lol, we included a small version on the back as a 'sample' of what a full month looks like, but it isn't actually ON one of the months. We figured it was safe to put it back there without offending anyone (much)! It was just too awesome not to include ;)

I thought so too at first. I think a bunch of those are Halloween winners that get 'em automatically. At one point all 12 of the contest winners were listed... so... hard to know for sure.

I cheated and looked through every month. I normally like to look at pages as i get to them.

Great work everyone, this is a ton better than my cuddly puppies calendar.

I bought mine on Saturday or something, but I did regular mail, so it will be a while before I get it.
