guess mine didn't do it justice just wanted to do something different.

gah, i didn't mean for that to be interpreted in context to others, just on a whole. i'm gonna keep my mouth shut from now on.

Hey, thanks! I thought the look of "gourmet" appreciation by AH of the FBI guys' brains was funny.

I think I imported a sort of fuzzy, dirty paper texture into the whole thing to try to keep it looking a little more hand drawn. (this has been sitting on my computer for years, so it's hard to remember)

But yeah, other than some unintentional fading of the inked lines after I messed with colors, I was pretty happy with this. (Also, the background was obviously an afterthought.)

Thanks for the comment!

The textures on the suit look completely wrong and the face is too blurred out to the rest of the photo. You obviously just used a filter or two in photoshop on your pencil drawn space-man, which brings me to idea that you should try to vectorized him. But the face takes a bit of the biggest hit, but the smoke improved at least.

SHIT.

Ok this should have been a requirement from the start, but...

CMYK

Yeah. Everyone who hasn't might want to make a quick convert. Didn't effect my piece, but anyone using really bright Greens and Reds or even Blues to a lesser extent in RGB might want to run a quick conversion. And the judges might want to as well on any pieces they are considering. Give any authors with big problems a chance to correct.

My piece again was not noticeably effected. And now that I think about it maybe I'm the only asshole who made this total NOOB move.

Thanks for the props on the smoke I spent longer on just it than the rest of the background put together.

The textures on the Tankman might look a bit wonky at 100%. But (and this is why I just gave that CMYK warning) when you print it out it looks fine. What we're really talking about here is really no bigger than a piece of paper. Hold a piece of paper up to your screen. Zoom until the piece is that size and you get an idea of what I'm saying. 300 DPI is crisp.

FUCK. I totally didn't think about that. If you flatten your image and make it from RGB to CMYK your colors won't be as different as if you changed the mode with your layered file. Well, I guess if I'm picked I'll have to convert it, otherwise I cba ;P

i didn't notice a change at all when it was flattened before converting. i've had cs2 since it came out and i still know next to nothing on how to use it.....

CMYK

That's not an issue, so don't worry about it.

If we go with print option A, I will convert the images... if we go with print option B, that press can handle rgb & cmyk, so... yeah, don't worry about it.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as you. But just think-- you're now (if you weren't before) officially a part of the newgrounds art community. That can only be a good thing; From now on, people will see you improve, can give you advice on fixes, and can encourage you when you don't know what to do with a piece...

That goes for all of us who haven't been on pick lists--It's our consolation prize.

It's the MAGIC of the INTERNET!

!!!OMGOMGOMGOMG!!! >>>>WINNERS!!!<<<< !!!OMGOMGOMG!!!

THANK YOU to everyone that submitted something! Just because you didn't win doesn't mean your piece wasn't awesome!! BoMToons and I went through and each pulled off the ones we thought were contenders. I had almost 50 ...out of 160! That's pretty impressive!! From there we managed to narrow it down to 12 (not an easy feat!!) Once the staff got involved there was screaming and yelling, tears, punches thrown... and that was just from Stamper! (lawl! kidding! <3) But in the end, we got our winners. I know some people will be pissed and disagree, but... you can't please all of the people all of the time, right?! So, CONGRATS to the winners, and THANKS again to everyone that was part of this!!

Now we just need to hope these babies sell so we can do it again next year!!!

Just improve your art skills

thats subjective

1) If you have MAD ART SKILLS (like you :]) you can make an awesome entry, and KNOW youre gonna get in. I mean, you werent nervous about winning. Dont deny.

2) And if you draw a MEDIOCRE picture, but OMG! It was from _______ user, yeah. You are in. Because of "popular demand". Just like sex sells, on NG it sells ike that: how many people know you.

Well, for the rest of us MORTALS, with good drawing skills, but no name for ourselves, its the boot and a thank you, come again..

Yeah, im bummed for not getting in. I'll get over it. BUT FUCK DAMMIT, there are about 4 or 5 "winners" that can be EASILY replaced with a better picture.

But hey, what are you gonna do? NG is just like rest of the world. Corrupt.

believe it or not i was, mad art skills like you say doesn't guarantee you a win.

thats exactly why i was nervous, i dont talk a lot here and am not well known like other users, and i know how it is when people have their favorites.

well you either make a name for yourself by spamming a lot or your art, pick one.

which is exactly why some of the better artists weren't safe. and art skills aren't just about painting ability, but anatomy, CONCEPT, composition, color usage and all that.

Cool! Congrats to all the winners- I think this calendar thing is a great idea and I hope it becomes an annual thing.
Yes, there are some that deserved to be in over others, but there's no way to make everyone happy.
Also very glad to see some traditional artwork fighting it's way through the heaps of typically newgroundsie shiny, metallic, super-sleek images. Really loved jagondudo's.

For those of you feeling depressed about not getting in- don't let it phase you. I can't tell you how many times my work has been overlooked in favor of the big names, the egos, and the "safe" artwork- I'm talking real art galleries and competitions.
Just keep creating!

i feel like an ass for posting "advice" and i feel guilty for being picked now that i see the actual line-up, but y'know this is the first time i've made it in an art contest with an actual prize, i can't tell you how many i've lost on other sites in other years - BUT if you're serious about your art, it always leads to improvement - whether you notice it consciously or subconsciously.
this isn't the last art contest in the world, and not the last on newgrounds for sure. if you're genuinely into art then you'll hit your stride, and find a contest or whatever that befits your style and skill even better than this one.
but that's just my two cents.

By far my favorite one was Sucho's- so I'm glad he got in. I'm also happy Savory's and HotDiggedyDemon's got in. Some people may be disappointed that theirs or their favorites didn't get in, but this is the very first calendar, and they have a year to advance on it, so in the future they may be able to include some kind of poll or more site-wide way of deciding who wins (after all the users will be the ones buying the calendars). So THANK YOU to EVERYONE who participated-we wouldn't have been able to get this off the ground without so many good entries. I'm excited and can't wait to buy some for my buddies!

If you asked 50 people to pick their top 12, you'd get 50 different combination. So it's no surprise that people are gonna disagree with the choices. If you're that upset and wanna discuss it, feel free to pm me or hit me up on aim.

I explained why yours wasn't picked on my user page :P

Congratulations to everyone who got picked.

They may not have all been the ones that I would have picked, but they all seem like worthy artworks.

I had really given up hope and stopped caring whether or not I got in long before the end of the competition, so I don't feel particularly disappointed that I didn't get in.

I've always liked these competitions; they give me motivation to actually get off of my arse and draw something. I was quite happy with my entry in any case.

Now the big hurdle for Newgrounds is to actually get people to buy them.

well said, and yours was one of my favorites, really original and was funny in a dark way.

and to WAaAzZAaA on TurkeyonaStick:
i don't and won't presume to be an art expert. there's nothing wrong with it as an art piece, is it a newgrounds character? [sorry if i should know], anyway it has some nicely rendered parts like the neck and the bolt on the axe thing. other than that it does look a bit unifinished, a bit flat and not as whimsy as some other entries. i've seen him do way better. and its up to the people who chose the entries their preferences.
