i was wondering too, there needs to be a better way of knowing when these will come up, i always seem to miss em. i started and finished my entries on the same day they were posted just to barely get in. its such a fuss to wade through forums though. if there is another way of notification i'd love to know

Thanks for the love. I liked your entry, but I think the fact there were a lot of tankmen entries really weighed heavily against you. Even though yours is one of the better ones, I don't know that it really is the best representation of the series. And, I think that no series should get more than one month, so I have to look at yours in comparison to all the others, and I just can't say it's the best of the group.

One specific criticism I have of your piece, if you don't mind me saying this, is that the perspective seems really off, at least to me. That being said, I think more people commented positively on your entry than like 90% of everything else that came in - so that's got to mean something, because in my limited experience on the board, people won't comment unless they see something they actually really like.

Just out of curiosity, is there anyone besides me that drew their pictue entirely on flash? Well, I used MS paint, and screen cap to resize it, but other than that, it was completely drawn in flash.

Also, feedback anyone?

-Thanks.

i did charlie's linework in flash, and all of the blue rabbit one in flash. well...originally... flash couldn't handle blue rabbit for some reason, crashed, and i had to redraw one of the sides again in photoshop, hopefully it isn't obvious which side.

hey yeah! that's a good one too, a little of the detail was sadly lost in the scale, though i'm sure it looks much better in full resolution. the detail shot of the tankmen is priceless.

this is gonna be a sweet calendar. and the way i use them, it'll last for many inaccurate years to come.

Yeah mine is full flash I just wanted it to look simple and clean, and I hate Illustrator's drawing tools, I did just raster it at full rez in photoshop to get that 300dpi afterwards.

Also, sucho, thanx for the comment, your pics are in my top picks, heh...see what I just did there *wink* no, seriously great stuff. And yeah the details in mine get lost when scaled, but there's a link to the full rez above my submission, and also here!!

HEY, what i did in flash to get the high resolution pic, was the next:

-Set the dimensions of the thing to "10.75 inches x 8 inches" or "27 cm x 21 cm" or whatever its pixel couterpart is, you just gotta keep the RATIO the same, . remember, flash cant handle anything over 2880 x 2880 pixels, so you cant work with 3550 x2800 pixels. just choose anything with an aspect ratio of 10.75 x 8 inches.

-When im about to export the file as an image, it asks me for the DPI. Remember how the pixel values change depending on the DPI value, BUT they always keep the same ratio. so you just have to put in 300 DPI when you're about to export. flash will make the image 3550 x 2800 : )

Heres an image, i think i just repeated what Renaenae said but oh wellllllll...

i tried doing that for blue rabbit, but my ratio was still too high and it kept crashing, i was lucky to save with what i had and i had to retouch it all up in photoshop... blech....

I think as long as the dimensions are right, 3225 x 2800, then you can change the dpi in any program; the dpi shouldn't affect the image quality, because I think (I might be totally wrong on this) that dpi just has to do with what resolution it prints out at.

I do remember somebody saying that flash wouldn't let them resize an image to be 3225 x 2800; I know ReNaeNae said something about that, but I really can't remember what...

increasing the dpi in photoshop, at least in my experience does make the image fuzzier... it takes alot of reworking... *sigh*

exactly, 300 DPI is like the stardard printing definition or whatever. Still, Flash cant do 3225 x 2800, it wont allow you to, thats why you have to work in a smaller pic (same ratio) and THEN when you're about to export it to a JPEG, change the DPI to 300, it will automatically change the pixel dimensions to 3225 x 2800, like MAGIC OMG!

Mine was hand drawn/inked, colored in photoshop. Seems like I should have re-done it in Flash though... I think the winners will mostly have been done using that method. :'(

traditional methods typically are unable to do justice to these kinds of slick toon characters, but i really liked your piece, you managed to keep it clean and glossy. it looks hand-colored, but in a good way. like a twisted hallmark card.
