You bring up a good point ...if you look at BoMToons layout, you'll notice there's an area for your name. It will cover a portion of your image... keep that in mind (and allow for it, please!). Thanks! :D

Ok thought I better post summit. this is my Bitey Lineart, more or less done (for him at least). The sketch is in my art thread. Also are you sure there's gonna be enough "worthy" submissions by the deadline. The art thread for this is looking bare.

If there aren't enough, it won't go to print. Simple as that.

Probably end up picking the top 5 and do shirts + stickers like every other contest. I'll have to settle for a 'cute kittens' calendar like every other year, and all the naysayer's (you know who you are) will get to do their "told you so" dance in my face.

BUT...there have been some really great submissions so far, and there are still six days left... including the weekend. You just never know, an onslaught of amazing pics could start pouring in at any second and we'll end up with so many kick ass choices that we'll have to extend '09 to 24 months just to fit 'em all in! This is Newgrounds after all ...anything could happen! lol

I really have faith that this is going to work - I'm sure everybody is just trying to put in as much time as possible on their submissions given that the deadline was just a little over two weeks - which I think is just enough time for most of us to come up with one really polished piece.

I say wait and see what happens on the weekend - my guess is that a bunch of submissions will be coming in (mine included, yay!).

Definately man. I'm not doubting the fact that you'll (more than likely) get loads of pics all piling in at once. Like Johnny said, people are probably using every second they can, after all it's not everyday you get a comp this good. I'm gonna start colouring Bitey tomorrow. I'll keep you updated.

One possibility to remedy that -and to sport NG's awesome user participation- would be to take everyone's pictures that didn't make the top 12 and put them all together on the back in a collage or sumthin... Might be too complicated to coordinate with the deadline and all, but it celebrates something that makes NG awesome- user participation.

I recently recall ReNaeNae post something about fit as may characters as you an.

Well it's not for nothing - it was important for people to post their art and keep both the Art and the Talk thread hot so that this could get maximum exposure and attract the best contributors that Newgrounds has to offer.

Also, even though there's been some talk about how some of the entries have been subpar, I think the majority of them have been what I'd consider "contenders" for one of the 12 spots - and for every contender that gets posted, that means that anybody who wants to win is going to have to step up their game one level higher - so participation by as many users as possible is important, because it encourages everybody to put forth the best effort possible.

The only way this was all for nothing is if at the end of the day, the judges can't find 12 entries that are good enough to justify printing up a calendar - but if that happens, then it's our fault, because as a community, we didn't take this seriously enough.

But that's not going to happen as long as we all do our best - if we don't then we blow the whole thing - but we've got an incredible opportunity here and it would be great if it could become an annual community event, we just need to make it work.

I wish, that would nice. I wouldn't mind at all if they became wallpaper downloads or something. I mean the images are definitely large enough to cover a desktop. Perhaps even a collab flash of some sort?

Huh, I guess you've got a point there. Although, I still wish I (as well as everyone else) had at least something to show for their hard effort even if they don't get their art in the calendar.

actually the actual skull is the part i dont really like. It really looks pasted on. the harsh shadowing no longer feels in sync with whats going on in the skull area. I woulda just made it look like the rest of it. Or hand drew it if its just a copy paste. I think the composition is great, and i like the big 300-like blood splatter.

it's a really good concept bro

although i'd do some minor adjustments, like i think the skull is a little too oversaturated, try and lower the tones saturation, or make it black and white, to better make it blend with the scheme of the illustration...mess about with hues aswell...otherwise it kind of stands out as a little "over-burned", if you get what i'm saying...

other than that it's a real kickass design, hope it gets to the calendar.

My problem with this is that such an important part of it is not your own creation. Don't get me wrong, it looks fantastic. I'd suggest you actually make your own blood splatter, it's not that hard to do. That image comes directly from google.

Good work otherwise though, great atmosphere. (The skull looks pretty good, draws your eye. Using a photo worked to your advantage there I think.)
