Well I added what I wanted to his hat finally. Sorry the background is all black right now, it used to be transparent before I wanted to show it. I was pissed off with the program that I had to improvise by printing the logo and then taking a picture of it while I curved the paper and then edit it into the picture of Uncle Tom I uploaded and I decided it looked like crap so I drew the whole goddamned thing again! Ugh, I feel like I went through hell, hopefully the background will be smooth sailing... hopefully...

Savory's is very cool. I haven't seen enough painterly style (in terms of composition and completion) submissions yet, so this is a welcome one.

I suck.

Sorry, I've been versioning it. I uploaded an older version.

High Res

In case you're wondering what the difference is, I've changed the size of the shading and added MwMike in the corner, it's where the name tag will be if it's put in the full calendar, so if it's chosen [unlikely] it will be covered.

It's a bit late to be starting now but I'm going to anyway. Here's my favourite NG character, Dad. There's gunna be a lot more to this and it's an Autumn themed piece.

You character models are fairly nice pie, so I don't think putting them in a large not-so-great background is the best way to show them. Do what you know, practice later :P

What is the guesstimated reimbursement anyway? I wanted some exposure mostly, and for fun...but can I expect to buy a cheeseburger from mcdonalds....or a Wal-mart guitar?

I had that idea for a background but I couldn't get the one in my head onto the page... :(

That's why I like figure drawing. Thanks though... I might regigger it and get them to delete the first post...

It all depends... awesome art = more calendars sold = more $ to the winners.

Once Newgrounds/Tom gets the/his initial investment/printing cost back, they/he'll figure out the $/% each of the 12/twelve winners will get based on how much is left/remaining.

So... say it costs $10 to print each one and they sell 'em for $15. They print 100 ($1,000) but only sell 20 ($300). Each of you will owe Tom $58.

Now say they sell all 100 (-12 given away) ...88 x 15 = 1320 - 1000 = 320 ...blah, blah, I suck at math, and I'm totally making this up, blah... 320 / 12 ...yeah... winners just might end up getting enough to buy a happy meal or two! (I dunno how much a guitar at walmart costs! :P)

But, seriously... it all depends on how well they turn out, and how well they sell (this will also determine whether or not we'll get to do it again next year).

I don't know how much a Wal-Mart guitar costs.

Rule #1, you never buy musical instruments from a store that sells everything from diapers to bikes to captain crunch cereal to terrible electronics.

That actually came out pretty awesome! At least I think so. Good job, especially considering all of the technical problems you were having.

I think you need to move the decoration on the hat up just a little bit, because, based on the shadow being cast, it looks like part of it is on the brim of the hat at the moment, and change the angle slightly so that it looks more natural given the direction the hat is tilted on top of Uncle Tom's head. I've attached an example of how I think it should look because it's hard to describe in words, hope you don't mind me altering your art slightly.

Also, in the original photo, the hill that the soldiers were on was covered in debris - how about having the tankmen standing on a hill of flash file icons (you know what I'm talking about?) ?

I see and like your suggestion about the icon on the hat. That looks much better, I had it kinda low because I didn't want the logo to get cut off, but that doesn't look bad at all.

As far as the tankmen standing on flash files. I have to decline, I wanted it to be realistic. Besides, I might as well just let you take credit for all of it if I took all your ideas. However, I have been thinking that flag could use a little love. I think I'll make the flag look like a flash icon!

Also, does can anyone see the Statue of Liberty in the city?

Yup, saw that and liked it.

Anyway, here's an update of my work in progress - added some more Newgrounds characters as graffiti art, smoothed out the shading and made some parts a little darker, tried to make the buildings in the background look better, and upped the saturation and contrast a little bit to get the colors to pop out a little more.

Here's a little list of all the Newgrounds series that are represented in the graffiti, see if you can find them all:

Dad 'n me
Alien Hominid
Mr. Boomba
Dead Baby
Mindscape (Bunny)
Captain Low Rez
Dawn of the Bod (purple skeleton)
Strawberry Clock
Eskimo Bob
Soft Outer Crust
Black and White Theater
Dawn of the Bod
SWAT
Xombie
Chaos Faction
Madness
On the Moon
Castle Cat
Foamy / Neurotically Yours
I Love Egg
Pico
Castle Crashers
cloud Jumper
Salad Fingers
Tankmen

I think that's 25 different series that are represented, so, I'm proud of that anyway. I may or may not do more on this - I'm going to give myself 2 more days to see if I don't want to do anymore to it - and then I'll post it to the art thread and never look back.

Looking good Johnny. One thing I would say is that the guy in the bottom left hand corner, of the strippers window, his hand is far too big man.
