... on Taiwan.
The reason is because Taiwan is going to claim themselves independent from China.
My primary concern is because if war is really unavoidable, Taiwan's first attack would be where China's coast is; at Hong Kong, where I live.
I personally think that there is no reason for Beijing to declare war for such a reason where it can be solved using words, despite how much Taiwan defies China...

Strange, the media where I'm at haven't covered this yet. Hopefully all goes well over on the other side of the world.

I say they should of tried to rationalize it first through peace, but if they already tried, let em go for it. Too bad they'll get nuked to hell...

They don't want Taiwan to leave china 'cause of the money, we all know that right?! I don't think the rest of the world will just stand there and watch (taiwan is comercialy too important for that), and I wouldn't worry too much about honk hong, but if I was in Beijing.....

If I was the typical Chinese, I would be insulted by your remark.
But luckily, I am from Hong Kong and born under British Rule; which makes British HK instead.
If you want to declare war on China, have a feasible reason for doing so. Declaring war on a country without reason is just childish.
If you want to kill a VIP, I would be greatful if you did away with Tung Chee Wah. He lost too much of Hong Kong's treasury that was saved by the British Government. And now he is threatening to reclaim our last Natural Harbour?! He's just sucking up to China...

Hong Kong is right at the coast of China. And since lots of the Capital is made there, it would cripple China's source of income if Hong Kong was destroyed along with everything around it.
And also; America Declaring war on China does not help, as both the HKD and the American Dollar is linked economically.

Noet to mention that china has the largest army in the world (30.000.000 soldiers correct me if I'm wrong) so before declaring war to them, I would make sure the entire rest of the world is with me else, you gonna get your ass kicked pretty bad you ignorant fool. And he's right, what you said was insulting for chinese people.
Anyways, what may happen would be just like what happened to tibet, I think.

Yeah I know but still, it's not what I would aim for if I was them, honk hong and taiwan have kept pretty good relations, and they are "friends" if you could call them like that, plus it would "feel" like attacking china and china wouldn't feel as threatened as if they attacked Beijing or Shangai.

If it comes to war, it's going to be around firing off missiles at each other. China does not have enough transports to invade Taiwan en mass, and Taiwan won't go on the offensive on the ground.
Basic line: It's going to be mostly about the Navy and Air force.

even if beijing DOES declare war on taiwan it will heed the same results as the civil war in america... (i know little to nothing about this[or anything], but im bored and want to type something)...sure they wont be seperated... but the losing party will resent the winning party, and hold a grudge against them for a long time. but like the civil war (and many wars) this is probably about economic reasons, and many countries will fight to remain/become rich. i hope taiwan would win if a war was fought.... i also hope the US doesnt interveine (spelling?) in this conflict either, the anti-war sentiment here is very strong, despite the government rushing into many open-ended wars, we dont need any more of that here. but yeah. im all for taiwanese independence.... and independence for any who wish to obtain/keep it.

The US better intervene. Taiwan might have a nice airforce, with some pretty high preformance craft, but if the Chinese decide to come in force, they're pretty much outgunned, and outmanuevered. As for the navy, neither country really has one, and US fleets can make a large difference.
Bottom line: Taiwan would put one hell of a hurting on PRC forces, but they still lose. The only thing keeping China from invading is that it lacks the forces necessary, and building up their forces to invade a country that is economically beneficial to them is pretty counter productive.

If China really wants to "invade" Taiwan, nobody can really stop them, and certainly not the US navy, because they can't, and because the US government'd rather wait and make business with Taiwan after it's been invaded and under total Beijing's control.
Gotta find another way.

I can't completely agree with this as. I could agree on the fact that if the Chinese mainland were to launch an attack the USA wouldn't be able to do shit about it, at least for maybe 3 days or so. The way the US government see's things, taiwan is one of our only democratic allies in that immediate vacinity. If it weren't for the small number of Foreign nationals, and Foreign troops already positioned in the area (as a possible staging ground for the whole "North Korea Situation" as our stupid media likes to put it...) China would have made it's move by now. To many countries already have a lot invested in this little island, and were China to launch an invasion, they would have a lot more Countries to answer to.
I really don't think that the US government (The US Armed Forces can deploy troops anywhere in the world within 72 hours...), let alone any other country with any ties to the Taiwanese island, would allow this to happen without some kind of recourse.
And also, we need to remember that, in the eyes of the US government, "Communism" is a bad word.

Yeah... you're right.
But if Hong Kong is affected by Communism from China, all hell would be loose.

ok lets go over this...
1. Hong Kong will never be communist, at least not for a while, it is a part of China's 'special economic zones' where certain areas of China are capitalist, it is because of these zones that china has such a great and robust economy...
2. China won't invade... it doesnt have the resources and its leaders dont really want a war... although they will throw down if need be...
the president of taiwan's party is a pro-independent party and he wants the taiwan constitution to be revised to include by 2006 a free and independent taiwan...
china doesnt want this and is basically signaling to taiwans other party to get its act together...
taiwan has a presidential election in march...

Chen Shui-bien's got a interesting time ahead of him. It all depends on how people view his handling of the economy, and where he stands on the Taiwan-China issue.

Ah. That may be so. But you have heard of the incidents of the Extremist-Developed Article 23 introduction, and how Hong Kong opposed it. And now they are attempting to replace Cantonese with Phutonhua which is inferior. The words are hard reading too.
2. China won't invade... it doesnt have the resources and its leaders dont really want a war... although they will throw down if need be...
They can invade, but it would not be very effective.

taiwan has a presidential election in march...
Fine by them, I guess.
