I am making a 2D sidescrolling beat-em-up flash game and I would like to get some of your opinions on the blood spurts I've been working on. Please let me know which one of 3 spurts you like best and how I could improve the look.

I'd say the second one if it was as fast as the others.
Yea, I was actually thinking about using the the second one for gunshots/sword attacks.. maybe the style of the first one for the standard punch / kick animations.
make 2 go down a bit (grav) then it would look nice
i'd say use 2, definitely... it's the only one that fits with the sprites visually. speed it up a bit, though... blood is a liquid and they move pretty quickly.
The first would look really badass with hit after hit of spurts...
Wow, I really appreciate the advice.. I'm going to work on them some more and upload an updated version. Is there away to edit your first (top) post?

Second one with more gravity and if it was faster, it looks like it's kinda floating right now.
Gravity affects blood too! it doesnt look quite right because it just shoots perfectly horizontally back rather than being affected by gravity.
Take a look at this example, it looks more realistic because the blood is affected by gravity rather than flying out everywhere.
To answer your question simply: I like the 2nd one the best.
But I think that the 1st one is good for a grenade explosion, the 2nd one for a normal gunshot and the 3rd for a shotgun (:

J1mp,
Was the link you posted some work of your own? If so, please tell me some tips on how you did the coloring and gravity decay. Would be great, thanks everyone.
