At 9/16/08 12:37 AM, BrianEtrius wrote: Now for the budget. Yes Obama didn't take the government money. Why? Because he raised it. HE RAISED IT, THE MAJORITY FROM INDIVIDUALS.

Also did you see Obama's $9-$11 Million fund raising dinner in Hollywood earlier this week? Look at who the individuals he was raising money from were: Hollywood celebrity and rich elite. Also do you realize that this was a $28,000 a plate fund raiser? Yet another example of Obama not taking money from middle men (the lobbyists) but directly from the very interests those lobbyists work for?

I'm still waiting for Colin Powell to come out for somebody though.....

I wish he would've run... :(

This past week could be the "September Surprise" that seals the deal for Obama and nullifies my gut feeling that inspired this thread. Obama has has taken the lead in the polls. RCP shows Obama winning electorally as well as popularly. EV.com is showing McCain winning electorally, but does not update as often as RCP.

But the main point of this update: this financial crisis could be the thing that puts an end to McCain's presidential hopes and gives Obama a decisive popular lead and electoral lead.

What is the september surpise that caused this? Obama has been leading ever since he won the nomination.

Thats why McCain should have picked Romney, the guy that ran on nothing but the economy and his work in the private sector.

This one of two sites I regularly watch. I like it because the polls are, well, all over the place. RCP takes these polls and averages them out. Today (9/15/08) it has McCain leading Obama 1.6 points (46.3% to 44.7%) in the national polls. However, it also shows that when applied to an electoral map Obama receives 273 electoral votes...or three more than is necessary to win the presidency.

:My gut is seriously grumbling about McCain winning the popular vote and Obama winning the electoral vote.

We'll only know how he does once Bush is out of there. Who knows, McCain could've been the better president. But Obama might also be the better choice. We'll find out within these next few years.

Am I? You quote something I wrote on 9/16 however a few days later I wrote:

So you see I actually was not wrong because I saw this coming and abandoned this line of analysis because new events on the grounds changed the dynamics of the election. So while yes, the original analysis of this topic was wrong it was abandoned well before the elections when new information and new developments changed the campaigns. In fact on 9/18 (as evidenced by my post) I realized that McCain had most likely lost the election and that Obama would be our next president.

In the future I would suggest that you:
1) Read and analyze the entrity of the argument you are trying to attack.
2) Read the entire topic rather than cherry pick quotes. (HINT: reply to the most recent post, especially when it is a concession and the OP abandons his line of reasoning. Now you just look like a sore winner.)

I couldn't agree with you more TheMason. People only want to "spread" OTHER peoples' wealth. As soon as they realize they're gonna pay MORE taxes, they're gonna be pissed. Also, where do you think all of this funding comes from? The money tree that grows in the White House? What a joke. Obama is a fucking joke.

Tonight Hogwash sent me the following PM:

"You were so wrong. See...look at the news...yeah. He won. Oh he didnt just win...he won....BY A FUCKING LANDSLIDE!"

"Get out of my America bitch."

There are a few things wrong here and he should be ashamed and branded as a hypocrite.

1) My original argument was that Obama would lose the popular vote but win the electoral vote. Essentially my original argument was that Obama would WIN the presidency. That has been proven correct. The only part of my original argument that was wrong was my thoughts on the popular vote. However, if you look at 9/18 you see that new developments caused me to change my analysis and ABANDON this line of reasoning. I did not run from what I knew was an erroneous argument and thus silently abandon this thread. Nor did I continue a line of argument that I knew was wrong. On 9/18 I admitted that the financial crisis had dramatically changed the race and that Obama would most likely win BOTH the popular and electoral vote. I changed my argument, and as such made a correct prediction. I did so publicly and honorably. That this topic has been resurrected is more of an indictment upon the small mindedness of the resurrectors than anything injurous to my ability to make political commentary.

2) Hogwash also wrote this a little while ago:
"Obama represents all the black people. He is the first black president." He also said that I should get out of "his" (Hogwash's) America. I listened to Obama's acceptance speech. I liked what I heard. Personally I would much rather see a Democratic President succeed instead of America fail. I hope Obama can come through with his message of doing away with the silly things that divide us (ideology and even race). Hogwash's sentiment both on this post and in his PM to me prove his hypocracy. Obama's message has been about unifying this country and bi-partisanship. His rhetoric is not about being the representative of "all the black people"...but of ALL Americans. I heard him on the radio here in Missouri sounding this call. I hope he will prove successful in this endeavor and that he is sincere in this call. This is what our America needs.

It is telling that, although I voted for McCain, I appear to get it more than some Obama voters.

His just sad that his family doesn't love him and that his a gay underage kid who can't vote. His trying to think he single-handedly caused Obama's victory. Nothing we can do about it now can we :(

Though I support Obama, I have to agree with the guy who pointed out that most gloating Obama supporters have issues with basic grammer, have a very limited range of vocabulary and are unable to express themselves clearly to the NG population. Hmm...

Unless of course you want your ideas to be taken seriously.

Anyway, Mason, I guess this just goes to show that this election proved unpredictable to the very end. I agreed with your conclusions based on the polling data. Look even at my post, about the swing states. Michigan and Wisconsin at the time of my post were almost exactly 50/50 while Pennsylvania Ohio and Florida all leaned one way or the other (2 of the three in the opposite way than they went in the election)... and then Obnama just flew ahead like he was shot out of a rocket in Mich and Wis... and the race then tightened to the "lesser" battlegrounds.

The pessimist in me even thought that the bubba vote would raise its ugly head in a much more significant way and make this race still a close one despite the late polls showing a huge Obama lead... and I'm glad that I was wrong.

Now the topic becomes: cabinet positions and how will Obama fill them. It'll be an interesting few weeks, that's for sure... I doubt the surprises are over yet for this election.

Tis better to sit in silence and be presumed a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.

Hmm. It didn't prove unpredictable to me. I've been predicting a Democratic rout in 2008 since 2005.

The only thing that surprised me was Hillary not being the Democratic candidate. I still wonder what Obama did that made the MSM and the Powers-That-Be drape him with the Mainstream Mantle of Legitimacy... or what Hillary did that caused them to look somewhere else.

Anyway, my congratulations to the President Elect. I didn't vote for him (I didn't vote at all, because there was no candidate other than Ron Paul whose message I felt I could embrace), but nevertheless, I'm rather glad he won. At least it sent the status quo a message. I hope Mr. Obama does a great job.

Holy cry baby. Getting all upset because your taxes may go up my what, $10- $50 a year? Not a bad price to pay for a little stability in the employment sector, or some economic stability that may come with Obama as POTUS. And speaking of money trees, which tree did GW Bush pluck the $657 billion for his Iraq invasion/occupation? Not to mention the other $173 billion for Afghanistan. Also remember that these two wars, totaling about $830 BILLION DOLLARS, come with a few hundred billion dollars in interest.
