you guys are only thinking of traditional rock. a capella has only singers, no bass and no drums, and yes, no guitar. jazz sometimes has guitar and singing but almost always has a flowing bass groove. some indie bands have drums, violins, fiddles, and other things, and no guitar or bass. so you kinda have to look at different perspectives...

*sigh* Once again, I never said that, I was just using a guy as an example.

Once again? Fuck off, you never addressed that in the first place, i read the whole thread. You just happened to take a lower-than-average individual of a group, and used the individual as a way of expressing the whole group. You're like those tardy assholes who think all Americans are like Bush.

I actually love Bass guitar, I see no reason why anyone would hate on them.

But this thread has opened my eyes to the possibilities! :)

I haven't once run into a guitarist who belittles the bass. This is probably because I don't consider assfucks who picked up an axe for the first time a week ago guitarists

I play bass because it's what I'm good at, and because it's an important part of a band

A lot of my favorite bands have really good bass guitarists so for me I'd say they are very important.

It wasn't. I said the bassists who are self important cockstacks suck.

That's implying that every 'self important cockstack' sucks whether they're a bassist, guitarist or a pastry chef.

Sorry for assuming that you passed remedial english.

No, sir. You're wrong

"The bass" was the subject, and you were referring to "the self important cockstacks that play it"

So, naturally, self important cockstacks play the bass. If you deny that's what could be derived from your statement, you're an absolute liar

I'm not going to get further into semantics, because I can tell that it wouldn't be a conversation worth pursuing

Regardless, this is foolish, and I still don't like 60% of the guitarists and drummers in the world. Nothing that you do or say will ever change that, and you shouldn't have a problem with that

the OP is a bitch

I'm a guitarist. I have a great respect for people who can play the Bass, and people who can play the Drums.

When there's a popular instrument, there's always gonna be pretentious fuckwads who try to play it just because of the stigma surrounding it.

I'm talking about Guitarists who play guitar just to get laid, or the bassists who claim they're more important than guitarists, or the drummers who say playing drums is more difficult because you have to use your feet, all that crap.

Bottom line is, there's always gonna be people saying stupid shit that'll piss you off - for example, the absolute tool who made this topic.

Why can't you fucking dumb apes stop you bitching and just have respect for your fellow musician, regardless of what instrument they play?

You wanna know why I, a dude who can only shred on Guitar Hero, am better than you? Because I know how to have fun.

Okay, the bass is not easy to learn if your playing pussy pop punk shit yeah its easy. If you play Funk, Soul, Reggae, or Ska bass is hard. In those genre the bass is way more important then the damn guitar. Remember Bass is the soul, guitar is the body.

Excuse me for not reading the whole thread, so I don't know if anyone's said this, but alot of the time, guitar is just there to fill in the gaps while the bass carries the song. Bassists work very hard witht the drummer to provide rhythm, and make most of the song, especially in 3 piece bands, where, if you want a guitar solo, the bass has to fill up alot of space and be very wide. I'm a guitarist, though, so... blegh. Just my two cents.

I've played guitar for about a week. I'm not gonna lie, I still don't know a whole lot of things about it. But when I picked up a bass guitar and started strumming (or fingering as some like to say) it, it only felt like a heavier guitar. Other than the amount of strings, music read, and weight difference, I don't see what the big differences are. A guitarist is a guitarist no matter what kind of guitar they play (braces self for flames).

I also don't like guitarists who think they can play bass just because they can play guitar! They're two different instruments! Sure because of the number of strings on a bass (4) it is easier to learn, but WAY harder to master due to the heaviness of the bass and how hard you have to press on the frets to produce a good sounding note.

I was actually in this conversation.

(Dumb guitarist): Since you hear the guitar more in a song, its more important, you know?

(Me):Are you fucking stupid? Youve been playing guitar for 3 days because you want to look cool and because I play bass guitar you wanna prove your better. And every one that you ask says I'm better.

(Dumb guitarist): Dude I can play Iron Man & Smoke on the Water and this is just my 3rd day.

(Me): No, you can play 14 notes of Iron Man, and 12 of Smoke. Yet, you still mess up while switching frets.

(Dumb guitarist): Whats a fret?

(Me): -_- Jesus Fucking Christ.....

Bottom line is, a bass is a valuable instrument too.

(BTW) The bassist gets more chicks. You Finger a bass while you strum a guitar.

WHO ELSE IS WITH ME?

I play guitar in a progressive hardcore band, where the music is really driven by guitars. Still, I cannot stress enough how important the bass is. Uneducated doorknobs like that give guitar players egos and bad names. My bass player loves to funk, groove, and shred on his bass. Without him, the songs would sound flat, we need him to be bringing out rhythms, breakdowns, etc etc. I used to play bass, and I still do, but guitar is my main instrument. Sometimes we like to switch it up, and have the guitars take the back-seat and let our bassist tap, play a lead, or a melody, and really fill out the sound.

Stella -- Check it, my band.
Arc of the Universe Music Inc. -- Check that too, our record label.
