I'm sick and tired of everyone saying that there is an Iraq "war". Whenver people talk about Iraq, it's the "War in Iraq". Newsflash, there is no war.
I'm not saying that the war never existed. No, there most definitely was a war. The thing is, the wars over. We went into their country, we destroyed their military, captured their ruler and set up a new government. If there ever was a more clear definition of winning a war, I haven't seen it. What we currently have is an occupation. We are occupying Iraq. There is no major battles going on, no war. We are fighting insurgents, yes, but it is not a war.
We won. End of story. Now smarten up and stop calling it a war.

It's the "War on Terror", the definition of which now has stretch marks.

Lots of them. Mr. Hussien was completely irrelevant to the war on terror. So the Iraq war was a part of the war on terror.. except of course, it wasn't.

Nonetheless, he is right. The "war" part is pretty much over, we're now in an occuptation phase. A horribly run, threshing machine of an occuptation...propped up by us paying people not to shoot at each other. But as a war? Yes, we did beat the enemy we went in to beat...we just screwed up everything after that point, and we screwed up by going in there in the first place because there was no reason to other then the dumb ass idea of creating a successful middle east occupation point.

So, in reality your just bitching because people aren't using the correct definations, even though the same results are being achieved of both.
Loss of life is registered with each word you use, and the status of government is likewise.
All your doing is arguing semantics.

No, definitions and the distinctions between them are important

Semantics seem to be the only thing that matters in american politics. And besides, once we start calling it an occupation the Republicans can no longer bitch about us losing the war if we pull out.

They could simply change it to us losing the mission in Iraq, or simply change it to whatever definition that they deem appropriate.
Really, it's not like I don't care but it's semantics. All your doing is just putting one similar noun in the place of another noun but leaving the rest of the sentence the same.

Youre right, correctly it should be called: The occupation.

Of course "occupation" it's such an ugly word. "War" on the other hand, that has real potential! It gives us a real purpose, unlike an occupation... occupations, sounds like something that could drag on, which it will! But... that's not what the people want to hear. We don't want to sound like we aren't welcomed there, which an occupation would imply.
Politicians love words, and they will use the words that sound the best in order to get what they want.

Yah, really we're in the "occupation" stage. It doesn't really change the issue though...
