Right. First things first. This club is aimed at the appreciation of any type of literature or lyrics/vocals. I had the idea to make a club where people could talk about, or share music lyrics, poems, rhymes, phrases etc...Anything you have thought up yourself, or even just something you heard that you thought had alot of meaning, or double meaning etc...

I personally aren´t the type to write poems or limericks or the such, but i can appreciate them. I´ve lately been listening to a duo called Scroobius Pip & Dan Le Sac, and i must say that the vocalist (Scroobius Pip) is a great writer and has some of the best lyrics i´ve heard in my life. To share some of these lyrics with you i´m gonna leave some links to their songs here:
Angles - Deep.
Thou shalt always kill
Letter from God - Quite possibly the best lyrics ever D:
Look for the woman
Waiting for the beat to kick in - Love this one from 1:19 onwards.

Another video i just happened to stumble upon is this ´home made´ video of Scroobius Pip giving us an early morning rhyme. I dunno how this guy comes up with such great stuff!

There are so many songs that have great lyrics. Groups like; Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Eagles, Muse, The Arctic Monkeys, The Beatles, Pink Floyd all have great songs with amazing lyrics. Even Elton John (as gay as he may be) sang the great song Candle in the wind which is quite the tear jerker ;_;

Most of the groups/songs i´ve just mentioned are rock or pop groups, but you can also find some decent lyrics in genres like hip hop, provided the songs not just about ´bitches and bling´.

Anyway, time for you guys to share n´ discuss and whatnot.

My god, I love DLS vs SP, I saw them at Reading Festival a few weeks ago, they were absolutely incredible.

If you asked me, I'd have to say that Magician's Assisstant is one of scroobius pip's deepest work.

Anyway, I wouldn't say that Muse have great lyrics, a band you did miss though is Radiohead. Thom Yorke is one of the greatest lyricists of our time. Every single word, every little moan, just fits in perfectly with every other one in each song.

anyway

That is another great song, quite a sad one, like angles. But i still think that letter from God is his best so far.

Yeah, you´re probably right....

Ya know, i´ve never really got into Radiohead, but i´m gonna take your word for it and check em out.

Heh, not sure if you were aware, but at the end of Letter From God To Man, Dan Le Sac actually samples Radiohead's Planet Telex ;).

Hey this seems pretty cool. I've never heard of Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, but I watched all of those videos and they were really great. Also, another band that I think has great lyrics are Tool.

So... can I join?

Oh yeah! I just listened to Planet Telex on youtube and it´s basically the whole same song, par the vocals, and guitar really. And there i was thinking Dan made that whole song himself XD

It's for a hardcore/death metal song that a friend is making, where I will do the vocals.
I suppose it would suit any type of metal, because it's pretty violent.
Here it goes, the song is called "The Hunt".

A new day
The hunger for flesh was never so big
I remember this smell of weakness,
This smell of fear

The smell is now stronger
I feel the presences of vulnerable kind
Senses made me look,
While instincts make me find

Ripping and tearing them apart
Eating them is pleasurable,
But the real pleasure comes from the hunt:
The hunt for human lives

To have intergrity is wrong
Those still alive will now die
They shall be gone, and with them,
Their inferiority

Disregard this post.

Lol, I also just got into Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip! Intelligent poet who raps = win

But I'd have to say that Modest Mouse has the best lyrics I've heard. Isaac Brock is very deep in what he writes. Hell, even their latest stuff which is mostly pop has good lyrics.

They sound like the lyrics for a Cannibal Corpse song. So are you going to submit the song to the audio portal when you finish it?

I actually think that´s pretty good, although a little violent, and cannibalistic. I especially like the 2nd verse, good lyrics there. Well done. If you guys ever get around to making the song, let us hear it.

Anyway, there are alot of deep phrases around too, one i always liked is:

¨Why are we dieing to live if we´re just living to die?¨

Deep

Do you know who said that? And do they have anymore good quotes?

I´m pretty sure it was 2pac in one of his songs. Like i said, some rappers can come up with some good stuff.

lol, that´s more comical rather than ´deep´.

Great lyrics: ¨Now they´re Mardy Bum, i see your frown and it´s like looking down the barrel of a gun - and it goes off¨. - Arctic Monkeys - Mardy Bum

I am so in. Up until about a year ago, I was the typical wigger wannabe listening to any of the new r'n'b/rap/hip hop junk that played on the radio and I had the gay ass personality to match.

Then I came across Immortal Technique. His song Dance with the Devil literally changed my outlook on life.
Then are some of his other songs (that I won't link to): Point of No Return, You Never Know and Cause of Death which are just as awesome.

After the initial phase I went through with Technique, I couldn't listen to another song without searching for the meaning or the emotion put into it. There was the occasional song or two that wasn't too bad, but for meanings and emotions in songs, Immortal Technique is a legend.

Yeah, I do the same thing with most metal songs. And it's great because most of them actually have a pretty interesting meaning behind the lyrics.

In terms of some of the best lyrics ever check out anything by Martin Walkyier. You may not like the music he makes as he's a metal singer, but damn, the dude is an awesome lyricist. The Sabbat album ' Clerical Conspiracy' is some of his best work.

Lyrics for the song Clerical Conspiracy.

If you like good lyrics I'd recomend checking out ' The Holy Bible' album by the Manic Street Preachers. Masuoleum, Faster and 4st 7lbs have some excellent lyrics, and if you want a real head turner read the lyrics to the song Revol and try and work out what the hell its about.

Revol lyrics.

Who else...ermmm...Kevin Ridley of Skyclad does some quite good lyircs. They Think It's All Over ( Well is it now?) has some quite good lyrics reflecting on the state of Britain. Ten Little Kingdoms is a good song for lyrics as well I think as its quite a nice little take on devolution in the UK.

Hahaha. that's a nice rhyme you've got there. I'm gonna go out on a limb here though, and say a truncheon would make a woman uncomfortable and maybe in pain. Where did you find that, though?

That´s a Limerick, you can find them anywhere on the internet, just google ´funny limerick´ and you should get alot of sites. Don´t just google Limerick though as you´ll mostly get tourism sites for the Irish city Limerick.

There was a young lass from Australia
Who painted her ass like a Dahlia
The shape it was fine
And the color devine
But the aroma--well, that was a faihlia

A lesser known artist that I've found to actually be a great lyricist is Chris Knox. You probably know him best for his least lyrically focused song (as in: completely lacking in any lyrical focus) "It's Love," y'know, the one from the Heineken commercial. Seriously, though, check out songs like "What Do We Do With Love?," "Man in the Crowd," and "Ghost" (which I'm roughly 80% sure is about abortion).

And I've actually recently started foraying into songwriting myself, so maybe I'll post some lyrics here when they get done. Which reminds me, one thing I have planned is an ironic, ridiculously over-the-top stereotypical rap song, and I need a good word that rhymes with "mouth." Use your imaginations :)

"No, I don't mind being the smartest man in the world. I just wish it wasn't this one." -Ozymandias, "Watchmen"

South. As in, (holy shit this is explicit) "after I vacation in your mouth/ i'll take a summer trip down south."

You could also sort of rhyme it with both, uncouth, worth, etc.

Ooh, that could work. Thanks a bunch. And the particular verse I needed the rhyme for is probably even more explicit than that. As in, overt references to oral sex and seminal fluid (and Metal Gear Solid...) explicit.

I started a death metal with a few friends of mine, and we take turns writing lyrics, unfortunately I don't write to any sort of structure and sort of just write what comes to mind.
Well I came up with some lyrics but my friends didn't really like them for some reason, so I wanted to post them here to ask your guys what I could add, or take away from them.

The lyrics don't actually lack meaning, but I'm still trying to work out myself what i mean by them;

You Reside here,
A morbid imagination in a fucked up reality,
I can't come clean to you,
Youre the one who knocked me from this height.
So what now?
You plead it was all in good faith,
but you're the one whose pockets are lined thicker than a cocktail of blood & oil;
You've failed.

Rip the bone from the flesh,
You may find clarity in your torure,
or cleanse your mind of your own loss;
The chip on your shoulder is wearing fucking thin.

Tell me what you think,
cheers.
