It has come to me attention that there is a fair amount of ignorance about Heavy Metal and its sub-genres on the BBS.

Now, for some reason, this really annoys me. Now, to make this profound amount of ignorance more evident, I challenge you all to take this test:

Which one of the below do you think is actual Metal?

This?
or
This?

This?
or
This?

This?
or
This?

Read below for the answer. But only after you've posted with your guesses.

the first example in all 3 is the Metal one.

Word up to your mother.

And in my opinion, there is no pure genre anymore, everything's always subgenred. There's no pure metal, just death metal, power metal, nu metal, alternative metal (my fav), heavy metal, etc, etc. There's a subgenre for every type of music. Except for ska, because, well, not that many people like ska or listen to it... It'll always have a place in my heart though.

Fuck yes. Nightwish, Dragonland, and Power Quest for the win. Although Nightwish is more symphonic metal, and DL and PQ are power metal, as opposed to plain heavy metal.

Stop getting your knickers in a twist. Metal-heads can be pretty narrow-minded. I mean if someone considers it metal, what right do you really have to bitch about it?

Says the dude that listens to pussy synth-metal. Slipknot has really neat instrumentation and complex musical arrangements. I doubt people truly dislike their music, but only don't care for their image.

Bob Seger is the best Metal Artist period.

Him and Elton John.

But in all seriousness, I'm not a big fan of metal. Some of it is OK, but some of it sucks ass. That averages out to "meh."

Wrong. Reggae is the more well known subgenre to ska, followed by Rocksteady. Then if you want to count the different "waves" as a subgenre too.

Hm, now that I think about it, isn't ska a subgenre to reggae? And I thought the waves were just the time periods where they became more popular.

Bitching.

Dig in the heels.
Mega-bitch over original bitch.

That is why I think a lot of metal-heads are little more than twats. They get really bitchy and can't accept opinion.

Obviously if I'm not a Metal head I wouldn't be able to distinguish between the sub genres, therefore attempts at revealing my ignorance towards the genre or all for nothing merely because I do not listen to it in the first place. I'm tolerant towards all genres of music HOWEVER I simply dislike metal, it has no appeal to me.

Genres are for idiots who don't know shit about music.

Shut the fuck up and learn to play a fucking instrument. Every song has elements of various genres. A song that conforms to a single genre is inherently flawed, because it shows a lack of range in the artistic talent of the composer.

Your opinions are shit.

My least favourite group of sheep has to be the metalheads. They have pretentiousness like no other stereotype, as if restricting yourself to some cliché makes them cooler than normal people.

Is this thread about you trying to see who knows the subgenres of metal?
Like, Nightwish being more symphonic, Korn being crappy alternative, Slipknot being wannabe trash/death and the rest being manly man power metal?
Dont like powermetal, nor alternative metal, i like Death Metal and maybe some progressive..
