Read the Mortal Machines series. It's a very interesting story about a world thousands of years in the future. They don't have the technology we have, because a war that destroyed nearly all of mankind.

You should read this if your even semi-interested in steampunk.

I've not read a fiction book the whole way through for ages.

I'm currently reading books from the Science Master's series:
http://www.williamcalvin.com/bookshelf/S cienceMasters.htm
and my favourites so far are:
The Origin of Humankind by RICHARD LEAKEY - about the evolution of 'homo' from monkey men to us, and the environmental pressures that caused said evolution
River Out of Eden by RICHARD DAWKINS - the evolution story up to monkey man
The Last Three Minutes by PAUL DAVIES - theories on how the Earth / the Universe is gonna end

They're all a piece of piss to read and they're really interesting. Atm I'm more interested in this shit than your average fiction book.

If you want fiction that gives you a headfuck, which I'm guessing you do from your list of books you like, and like I do too, then The Dice Man by Luke Rhineheart tells the story of a psychiatrist who decides to forget about his own desires and his ego and the Self and to roll a dice for every decision he makes in life, eventually viewing Chance as God and starting a cult and turning into a proper nutjob. And the sequel 'the Search for the Dice Man' is also very good too, about the guy's son trying to track him down and becoming a bit of a dice man himself, although people tend to prefer the original.

You can't really go wrong with Stephen King, if you like those kinds of books.

If you like manga, then I'd recommend reading Death Note. It's a bit better than the anime because they don't make it obvious as to what will happen next in the series.

Bumping because I actually want to buy some more new books and need more suggestions. Probably get two or three others. Just finished The Dark Tower series and several other Stephen King books which took a TON of time to read. Preferably, dark books but if you know of any other books worth me taking a look into, just mention it.

The Inferno by Dante

good read, and hopefully a good game that will match with Bayonetta and God of War (I was shocked about how a poem can become a game. So far, the developers are doing a great job).

I just bought this book about an opium addicted time traveller from 1903 who travels forwards in time to an alternate 1973 and finds that the British Empire is still going strong, and rules the world with a fleet of giant Zeppelins. It's called "The War Lord of the Air".

You just know this shit is going to be awesome.

"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."

Better then the movie (Which I also recommend because Jack Nicholson is awesome) and McMurphy is one of the funniest characters I've ever read.

Books to recommend? Hmm... I read a lot of Stephen King, so you can't go wrong with him. Some of my personal favorites are 'Salem's Lot, Pet Sematary, IT & The Shining. The Harry Potter series are very good, as well as another user mentioned reading The Lord of The Rings & The Hobbit.

Mosquito Coast is one of my favorites. Ranks up there with 1984 for me, though I could be getting your hopes up by saying that.

Think of it as a dystopic Swiss Family Robinson with a very intimate narrative.

Try "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" It's the book that Blade Runner is based off of.
I also suggest "The Guns of The South" by Harry Turtledove. I'm currently reading it and it is very good. It's about what would happen if the South won the Civil War... because they had AK-47's. It goes into the aftermath as well, so it is a kind of politics book towards the end, but with many cuts to different characters so it doesn't get stale. My one complaint is that it has a lot of period language so watch out.
Last one... The Ask a Ninja's Ninja Handbook. 'Nuff Said.
