I thought I was going to have trouble working with vista but it's alright. I only had a few problems that were easy to fix with a bit of googling.

I think it's a much more complete and feature-filled OS than XP.
Now, it does use your resources, but that is the only catch.

-Vista still has its fair share of bizarre wireless compatibility issues, which for me, renders the operating system useless every 15 minutes for so.
I think it's fair to point the finger at vista when even the driver they want you to download via autoupdates doesn't solve the problem. The scheduled disconnect issue is neither driver nor hardware specific, but it is os specific. In some cases, changing ipsec settings, qos, ipv6 or all of them fixes the problem temporarily.
-It's services are a convoluted interdependant mess.
These... http://www.speedyvista.com/services.php
Ex. If I want to disable event log, I have to disable task scheduler also. How does this make sense?
-The control panel applet redesign is disjointed, and the more advanced options (which were the upfront options in XP) are buried.Yeah, but you can change to classic view.
Ok. Do this in vista... Open up display properties with all display property tabs included: Themes, Desktop, Screen Saver, Appearance, Settings. You can't. Yet... you can go to "Personalize Desktop" and then from there jump to the actual desktop tab, but even then they don't bother providing the complete desktop properties window. So... in order to change settings for desktop cleanup and default icons you actually have to go to Personalize Desktop, (disjointed)Display Properties, and then from there you can get to desktop items. When in xp... I could right click on the desktop and instantly access themes, desktop, screensaver, appearance, and settings. Why do we need an extra layer of abstraction? (It's been a while since I used vista so some of this might not be completely accurate)
-The visual style is cheap and eye-straining.from a purely aesthetic perspective, I love it.
That's great. I don't. But don't worry. I changed it to this.
Aesthetics aside, why when I don't have a teal background, do I still see a teal active window border?
I've got a decent enough computer that it doesn't make a huge difference, unless I have like a billion programs running.
I often have open autocad, photoshop, and a 3d modeler at the same time. My computer runs out of ram if I do this in vista. I think 2GB of ram is decent. Vista operates best with 4.
-Outbound filter capable firewall.Maybe.
Again. It's a pro, not a con. I put it in the wrong list. And yes, for a fact, vista firewall has outbound filtering, except like most advanced options it's buried. And ontop of that the gui is very user-unfriendly.
Really, I don't thin kit's that big of a deal.
Disregarding cons based on my aesthetic taste: A stain on a carpet is still a stain whether or not it's in some dark corner of the room. However, some stain in the far corner isn't a reason to throw the carpet out. That said... none of these issues are really reasons to hate vista. I guess I could have made that more clear.
Unless you have a piece of shit computer, the resource usage isn't a HUGe issue, and yo ucan always turn off aero.
Turning off aero actually doesn't do that much.

I kept XP for as long as I could, then my old laptop finally exploded on me. I was very weary about getting a vista laptop, but I knew I wasn't going to get a mac. For a while it took some getting used to, but after a while I really favored it. Programs run much much faster then on XP, and when something stops responding it doesn't take 6 hours to close it. The only problem I've had since I got my new laptop is occasionally it'll get overheated and crash, but that's more of a problem with the laptop and not what it's running, and it only happens occasionally. Vista was a success from microsoft, even if some people don't like it, that's just because maybe they get used to it slower than others, but I like it.

Unless Microsoft rebuilds Windows from scratch, I'm never using any windows as the primary OS on my computer again.

I just upgraded to Vista after some considerable thought. Initially, a faulty wireless card kept corrupting my installation (I needed to go via Windows Update to download the fresh drivers - which is odd, because my friggin' NIC card wasn't working to do that; silly Vista).
Anyway, after putting in my spare Linksys NIC and an extra gig of RAM, Vista is working flawlessly for me; the additional updates have finally made Vista bareable, IMO.
Mind you, I'm a bare bones sorta guy and I'm used to having just 18 processing running at start up on my old XP install, with Vista I have 33.

I like the look of vista, but it isn't too great when it comes to games. For some reason games run slower on vista. I mean games like team fortress 2 or portal run fine on max settings, but it's the games like crysis that seem to lag more on vista than xp.
I want to keep vista just because I like the look, but really I'm thinking of getting a second hard drive so I can put XP back on that.

How so? I spent many hours wrestling with XP back in the day, trying desperately to get it to go faster and become customized with nice effects. The only thing that could make it go any faster was a complete reinstall, and the best customization came from programs like windowblinds which ate all my resources. Not to mention killing off the occasional spyware.
The only thing that is undesirable about Linux is the lack of games and other windows programs, but I use a virtual machine for that.
If Linux is shooting yourself in the foot, then windows is standing at the top of a steep mountain with little food and water, fighting off a horde of zombies while simultaneously trying to get work done.

I currently have 85 processes running, and my computer is going smoothly.

Gamer? Get a PC.
Macs were superior for art stuff around 15 years ago. It's now a stereotype with grotesquely diminished truth which gets propagated by people, like you two, who either want to justify the retarded price of a Mac computer or want to appear knowledgeable in the subject.
Now the computers are basically the same. You just have to pay out the ass for one in comparison to the other.
