You know how in the cartoon Perfect Kirby and in one of LegendaryFrog's, they have it so that when you click a button, you can turn the subtitles on or off? I was wondering how to do that. If you know, could you give me the code and the steps. It would be really helpful.

I think when you disable the subtitles it hides the layer with subtitles. I think thats the only way, and if so it should include action-scripting. You have to wait til the scripting gurus arrive at the scene

Still clueless. Oh, by the way, while you guys are answering my present question, maybe you can ask another scripting question. How do you make it so that when you press a button, it skips like, thirty or forty frames?

Ok man you obviously don't know much if any AS so before asking try learning some for yourself, just the basics will be sufficient. For this try www.flashkit.com/tutorials , I think that's it or possibly StarCleavers tut(AKA TehSoupNazi) at http://www.angelfire.com/in4/star_cleaver/tut.html

Flashkit.com doesn't have any tutorials that'll help, and I can tell by the name of the link that the other link is a porn site. Also, the flash dictionary didn't help worth squat. Listen, anyone who has done the toggleable subtitles in flash, make a tutorial about it and send it to newgrounds!

Well, I checked out what you wrote, and I've tried that one, but it didn't work. Someone seriously needs to make a tutorial saying how to make toggleable subtitles

Sorry, but still no luck. Maybe you can still help me.

In my subtitles thing, I have this little see-thru bar that the subtitles are on. Your tutorial is just for words. I want to get rid of the bar too. Maybe you could tell me how to get rid of the text AND bar.

Make the bar a movieclip, give it the instance name bar and add the code
_root.bar._visible=0; to frame one and to the button, also bar._visible=1;

Oh, and while I'm at it, do you know the code so that when the movie reaches a certain frame, it changes it's quality? Cuz i need that for a movie I'm making.

Since you're all nice (or most of you) on newgrounds, I'm gonna tell you a quick bit about it. I walk down a little dirt road, I'm walking past stuff, then I find a cave. I get out my cool penflashlight (you know, those really small and cool ones), and I venture in. I'm gonna make it quite long.

Anyway, if you could give me the code, I'd really appreciate it.

Depends on what you want to do, either just make a keyframe with toggleHighQuality(); or a button, but if you want to specify the quality i would use _quality:
//put in a keyframe:
_root._quality = "LOW";
//low | medium | high | autolow | autohigh | best

It's not for the button. It's just for the frame. Thanks

//low | medium | high | autolow | autohigh | best

Whoah, what's autolow, and autohigh, and BEST?

BEST will also anti-alias Text, and uses BEST quality for everything ;-)

Autohigh will make the quality the best, but if the frame rate drops too much it will switch to low quality so it does not lag.
Autolow will start with low quality and only increase it when the Computer is fast enough. Some find them anoying since in some cases they keep switching back and forth, but they are quite usefull in action scenes of games.
