At my school it isn't really outrageous, its 2 bucks, which isn't that much, even if the food is pretty shit.
I mean, I can pick out a few things that taste alright, and there aren't many other places you can get that much food for 2 bucks.
I do however, don't think its fair that they only serve milk with lunch, water should be an option, but it costs 1.25 extra.

I'll take yesterday's lunch as an example.
Taco shell, meat, lettuce, diced tomatoes, cheese and salsa.
Small Soft pretzel, half corn cob, and fried apples.
That is one of the best lunch days, but all that for 2 bucks is quite reasonable.

It's $1.50 for most meals, with milk and fruit included. Pop tarts, brownies, or "unhealthy" shit costs 80 cents. I find it quite reasonable. Of course if you're poor, it's free.

Dude, our school's tater tots are fuckin' insane.
They overcook them, so they're so goddamn sharp, you could probably throw one at somebody, and draw blood.

My school gives everyone who turns in a form free lunch. I turned one in so that I could two lunches in case I get really hungry, for the price of one.

You've got it lucky. Our school gets pizza delivered from an AMAZING pizza place nearby, and it is $6.00 for 2 slices and a can of snapple. $2 fucking .50 for a slice of godly pizza.
Here's the cool part. The pizza place is about 5 minutes away, and I can get an entire pie, 8 slices, for 8 dollars, about.
If I bought a pie at school, I'd be paying $20.
You're not allowed to complain.
I hate Poozy.

You can either pay for it up front, or you can pay for it in taxes.
Either way you're paying for it.

Fuck the school lunch ... I always leave school and go get some fast food. It's always relaxing to be able to leave the school and take a smoke break.

at my old high school is like 2.25 for a slice of pizza and 1.50 for a gatorade! Also they don't allow anyone to sell food or drink items before the end of our last lunch.

its not all to bad at my school. $1.75 for the main lunch (be it hamburger, taco, or whatever), a side (usually a vegetable), a desert, and a drink.
although it does taste like shit.
