Ive been wondering if there is anyway to convert a song in MIDI format to a format that is compatible with flash, without corrupting the file in anyway. Can anyone help out?

I'm pretty sure you can convert a MIDI to an MP3 in Audacity. I've never done it, but i've heard it being done before.

Why would you want to use a midi? The only way is to convert it to an mp3/wav, but if it takes up the same space, using a midi makes no sense.

Because in all honesty, there are a couple of midi's from VGmusic.com that I want to use in an upcoming project that kick the crap out of the original music from the games that they come from.

I import the MIDI file I want to convert in to Audacity, but I get the following error message when ever I try to play it.

"Error while opening sound device. Please Check the output device and the project sample rate." Where do I start? Im using the Mac OSX version of 1.2.5

Directly converting MIDI files to audio can be done (although it's not pretty). If you've found some MIDI files that you're really attached to, I'd recommend using a softsynth for best results. I know Audacity supports VST so you might be able to find a synth plugin somewhere.

Since you are using a Mac, you can use Garageband to convert the MIDI:

hope that helps...

Wow, way to make yourself sound stupid. A midi is an extremely highly compressed filetype that saves the notes of a song, rather than the frequency, then just passes those in binary form to a player. A midi file is around 1/1000th of the size of an mp3. A 3mb mp3 song is about 20kb in midi form.

But YOU CANT PUT MIDIS IN FLASH. Yes, Midis are useful if your able to use them, but if your converting them to an mp3 (which he wants to do) it serves no purpose. Converting it to an MP3 would make it 3MB or however big it is again, and midis are shit quality. Maybe you should read my post again.
