First, I don't want to start a big argument about what I believe, I just want to ask a question. Whenever somebody asks me my religious views, I tell them I'm Agnostic. Now, when I heard about being Agnostic it said that you can't prove or disprove god. Well, I don't believe in god at all, and with many other beliefs but I think that you can't prove them right or wrong.
Does that make me Agnostic or Atheist? I think that you can't prove what you believe, like God, evolution, or many other things concerning how man or the universe was created.

If you don't believe in a God, you're an atheist. Agnostics believe that there is a higher power, not necessarily an omniscient being.

Ok thanks, like I said I don't believe in god but I really don't have an explanation for how the universe and everything was created. I am tolerant of other Religions and beliefs, they don't bother me I just don't believe in them. Thanks, I was confused for a while so I guess I'm atheist.

Well, with your description you could be either.
Do you believe that there could be a deity or deities?
Thats what it comes down to

Well, what i think you meant by atheist is that you don't believe in god, but we can already tell what your views are on that.

No, I don't believe in any sort of supernatural being like a god. So I guess yeah I'm an Atheist. I wasn't sure because I thought that I couldn't prove or disprove god which made me think I was Agnostic.

Yea you could be deist but it all really depends on whether or not you think a higher power could exist.
For instance I think its perfectly plausible a higher power exists I'm shooting for something like a glowing white orb of infinite thought or if you want to get more scientific an extreme form of collective unconscious brought into a definite form of some sort instead of abstractaction
Sorta like the matrix...

Actually it is about disbelief in any religion, not just ones with Theism (See: Christianity)

You would be defined as a "Soft Atheist" by some, and as an "Agnostic" by others. But it really doesn't matter in the long run, as either position is just philosophical and the labels associated with them aren't important.

You're not an agnostic, you are an athiest if you feel that God isn't real, even if you can't disprove him. Really only Buddhists and agnostics have it right, but I feel like Buddhism is more like a way of life rather than a religion.

I thought I wasn't Atheist because some people are really hardcore about it. I have mixed beliefs, I was just curious on what I would tell somebody if they asked me what I believed in.

Which is what Religion is suppose to be, but somehow for many religions they've been skewed and just have hordes of sheep following them. Really your beliefs should be like your politics you should make your own decisions instead of following a majority, but like religion many voters are sheep and not the Ideal Voter....

Well, religion is all a matter of what you believe in. For example, I believe that Akane Tendo created the universe with her lovely singing voice. That's why freedom of religion is great.

Why would you come to a thread like this and immediately decide to be a dick and cause some flaming? I never figured your motive on this BBS was to be a dick.
I've always thought 'God' is an odd word, because people like RacistBassist are dickheadish because I think the God explanation is just as likely and plausible as the Matrix one, and religion is waaaay out there in terms of unlikelihood, but it brings out SO MUCH HARDCORE TEEN ANGST in some people.

You can prove evolution, and science is based on testable proof. It's incredibly likely that the bulk of what science says is correct.
It's been said that all atheists are technically agnostic, because, like I said, you've got to be agnostic about the Matrix too. And the idea that the universe was created 20 seconds ago to look just like this. But it looks exceptionally naturalistic and I have a strong feeling that, when you stare into that big void of space, God isn't looking back. I can't make any claims about the origin of the universe, but I've a strong hunch that it was nothing to do with this God fellow, just like I don't think it's a computer simulation or that an intelligent race went back in time and made it.

I have seen no flaming as of yet, unless you count me being a dick as one, but I don't, so your call on this.

Lol I'm a dickhead because I share your views on religion, minus the god as an odd word part?

I never related your dickheadishness to your religious beliefs, if I did that I would be generalising.
It's funny that you attacked atheists in your first post rather than the more ridiculous and damging claims of religion.

Not. Agnostic means you aren't sure. There's no proof, or it can't be proven.
Deist believes in God because their really is no better explanation.
Deism is actually the belief that God created all, but doesn't intervene with it's workings.
I'd consider OP an agnostic.

Agnostics don't really care.
Atheists say that Ghawd doesn't exist.
Secular simply means not churchgoing.
However, most people think that they are synonyms.
If love is blind, and God is love, and Ray Charles is blind, then God plays the piano.

As far as the truth and affirmation go, all beliefs are the same.
I would say, both the agnostic and atheist see God as unobservable and thus from a practical view inconsquential.
However, I think the split is that... the atheist says, "I might as well believe there is no God, within reason" where as the agnostic says, "Does it really much matter?"
It seems to me atheists make a point of disassembling religion - as if the deconstruction is so evident that it deserves in its own right to be deconstructed, or if not for that for the bad it has done. I personally think that... when you believe something, alternatives produce ambiguity, ambiguity weakens affirmation, weakened affirmation lends itself to dissonance, and dissonance is resolved by discrediting the source. Rather than empirical, I find religious debate to be... social, on both ends.

Pick a word and define it for yourself. If you want to say your agnostic to avoid the hardcore atheist stigma go for it. As long as you know what you believe it doesn't really matter what you call it, since the same words mean different things to different people.

I hate that people feel the NEED to compartmentalize their beliefs or lack thereof into one-word terms.
I'd just say that you don't believe in god. Any term, atheist or agnostic or whatever else, one would use to indicate a lack of belief in the pre-determined and mass-produced idea of a creator carries subliminal weight in the minds of others. If I tell a very religious person that I'm an atheist they're more likely to disagree with me than if I simply tell them that I don't believe in the god they believe in.
People just like to get lazy with terminology I guess. Nobody, it seems, is willing to explain themselves when asked anymore...

You're only atheist if you deny the existence of god, agnostic if you don't confirm nor deny, nihilist if you believe whether he exists or not is inconsequential.
