idiot-monarch: wow, great question dude. i guess it's the fact that i like old animation a lot. there's so much life to looney tunes/old disney/fleischer cartoons and that's something i'd like to bring back. every frame was inked and carefully painted and it really has that human touch. that's something most people lose with flash by just tweening symbols around. the old stuff looks a little earthier and a little more raw. i guess a good example would be comparing rock and roll of the 60's using analog recording technologies (like Hendrix) to more standard contemporary practices of digital correction and ultra production (Jonas Brothers). I guess that's not really a fair comparison, but still.
i'm taking my stuff into After Effects to add film grain. i also duplicate the character layer, gaussian blur it, and put it at 40%-60% opacity. this is meant to replicate the effect of old CELS under the camera (its' a theory of the great artist nick cross that light gets refracted and spread in the thin layer of plastic: http://pyatyletka.blogspot.com/ ). also, most of my backgrounds will be painted. for this film, i really just wanted to create something quick so i did my BG's in flash, but for other films i'd like to maintain that standard of quality of something painted, or at least faux-painted (textured).
you know, i care about this stuff but we'll see if other people care when i release stuff.
here's a hack title card not for this short but for another one starring the drunk frog.
