4.09 / 5.00 15,161 Viewsrecently ive been wondering what steps other animators go through to make there movies. i have trouble making movies and i think i have trouble because i dont have a routine. so basiclly im asking other animators what steps they go through to make flash movies. so basicly what steps do you take to make a flash movie?
feel odd... feel very odd
1 think of a storyline.
2 Draw the charactors in flash on seperate layers.
3 Draw backgrounds etc.
4 Do a storyboard.
5 Convert the storyboard into scenes.
6 Animate
This is not necessarily the order I do things but ideas help.
The first step is learning flash. Personally, I tought myself how to use it, but it took a long time. I picked up new techniques as I went along. You first project isn't going to be what you expect it to be because you're still learning, but eventually you'll find that there's alot you can do with the program. The next thing is to figure out what kind of flash movies you want to make; comedies, action, drama, etc. Once you figure out which one best suits you, you can apply those techniques to fit your movie. I started using flash about seven years ago. I've learned alot and feel each of my projects are better than the previous ones. However, I still have alot to learn. Hope that's a start.

thats kind of the wrong order, but everything seems to be there, a storyboard should be after the storyline

storyline Yeah I did say it wasnt in order. Sometimes I work in different orders depending on what inspires me to start drawing. Sometimes ideas creep in or change after drawing etc etc.
would this be a good rutin?
1)write script
2)story board
3)record your script
4)put story board snenes onto an fla. file
5)line up story board and the recorded script
6)animate

If that works for you then its good. Everyone works differently I think. Rules are not necessarily a good thing in artwork.

Take a piece of paper and pencil, draw whatever comes to mind. Think of how it could be made into a game or movie. Draw my thing in flash and then elaborate. Most of the time my idea goes strait from my mind to the the garbage.
1. Find idea from wherever.
2. Brainstorm idea.
3. Write script.
4. Advertise for voice actors.
5. Hire Voice Actors.
6. Wait for VAs to finish lines.
7. Draw artwork for characters.
8. Animate first scene.
9. Draw more artwork.
10. Second scene.
11. Preloader, menu.
12. Credits.
13. Start rest of movie.
14. Abandon for a few weeks.
15. Remember that I hired VAs, and get back to animation.
I just wing it, personally. While I'm going, if I get bored I just say, "what can I add to this to make it better?" Then I just do said thing, and when I get bored of it I think of something else. This way, it's fresh for the veiwer and easier for me.
...then again, I've only made 2 twenty second films, so I have no room to talk.
Well, I don't make movies, but I can give you some hints...
1st: Find some idea, story, something that the movie will be about.
2nd: Brainstorming phase: grab a piece of paper and write down anything that comes to mind about the movie and things you should include, even if it's stupid it can be useful!
3rd: Write a script, even if it's just a draft.
4th: Start working on the characters, from sketches to detailed drawings, you need to know how they will be.
5th: Find voice actors according to your characters if you need them. This is why I think you should draw the characters first, because the actors need to know how they have to sound.
6th: Finish script if you haven't. You can start animating if you want, but it's safer to plan first, so you won't have to delete part of your work just because you decide to change it.
7th: Animate!
8th: Menu, credits, whatever you want to include.
9th: Preview the movie. You can show it to a friend or even several people. Try to guess what it's wrong.
10th: Correct things that are wrong.
11th: Repeat step 9 and 10 until you're sure that your movie is fine.
12th: Submit!
Wow... It seems so difficult... It's easier than it looks, though...
Cheers!
1: Wake up with genius idea
2: Find genius idea evaporates from my mind by the time I've had my morning tea
3: Scribble ideas on paper. Frown at them until they look better
4: Open Flash
5: Close Flash immediately upon being confronted by the Splash Screen, feeling inadequate
6: Listen to music, wondering about turning that into a Flash animation
7: Open Flash
8: Close Flash immediately upon being confronted by the Splash Screen, feeling inadequate
9: Open MSN. Complain loudly to everyone on my contact list about being crap
10: Seven hours later, go to bed
Repeat. For three years.
...
1. Draw something funny.
2. Write something funny.
3. Edit.
4. Done!

Bahahaha.
And speaking of three years.
that's how long it took me to discover the onion layer thing.

I can animate now, whereas in the past, it's been guess work.
gah, that frustrated me. :P
