Would you vote for a candidate for a state legislature who was in his early twenties and a college students? Or, let me ask a better question - what impact would the candidate's youth have on your voting decision?
How would you feel about a candidate who, in addition to having a platform on "traditional" issues, had as a high priority the institutionalization of youth involvement in politics? For example, this candidate might sponsor legislation establishing a blue-ribbon panel of high school students from schools all over the state, nominated by their teachers or peers. This panel would produce several reports a year detailing issues in the state education system from a youth perspective, as a complement to the traditional Education Department reports. Initiatives like this one would be used to increase the youth voice (18-25 year old) in state government.
Thoughts?

Age has nothing to do with it. I'm 17, and Precinct Committeeman for Indianapolis.

That's just plain cool. I'm involved in a couple youth campaigns for a state house of representatives - I would very much appreciate it if you could go into some more detail about how your campaign won.

Nothing major, I worked with the DNC in Indianapolis for a few years, and I had Governor Kernan's support, as well as some of the City-County council which the Democrats now control. It also doesn't hurt to have some extra money on hand to print off posters. It's all media saturation -- if you have posters and the opponent has none, how are the going to know he exists?

the problem here is that the 20 year old isnt part of either party. Making it unbelievably more difficult than it should be.

its so sad that in our huge nation there is only room for 2 political parties (come on now, we all know that green, libertarian, and all those other guys never stand a real chance) while in a country such as oh germany or france they have at least 5x the number of parties running for office who all have a decent chance of winning. Politics is so much more nuanced than just black or white, republican or democrat. Pity both the people and the campaign financers can't realize that.

Because 2,000 years of "For God so loved the world" doesn't trump 1.2 million years of "Survival of the Fittest."
