Been following this game for years, and I've already signed up for the beta :) hopefully my being in a prominent Forumfall clan will get me in. The videos were amazing (though I would have liked to see a little more UI).

Any idea if I can just build myself a cottage deep in some woods and just fight bears for a living?

No, you cannot build houses anywhere, they made it this way so the continent dosen't look like a huge metropolis after some month, and the house could be destroyed because it isnt protected from a clan stone, I could say you could live in some cave tough, you could need to clean it up from some mobs from time to time, but mob spawns are dynamic, so after a while the cave would be "yours".

This is the game BEFORE the beta, it's all subject to change. Better graphics might also create major lag in battles with hundreds of people, city raids in WoW can crash a whole server.

Of course, Graphics cannot be uber awesome because the game needs to be lagless. Also city raids in wow and in Darkfall just cannot be compared, but I take it you understand that.

They announced it for this year, around december. They are taking beta applications right now.

It is. Grinding scenarios for renown isn't my idea of fun...which is a shame because it's way more efficient than the open RVR with it's shitty badly-designed keep sieges. You haven't even played the game where as I was one of the first people to hit level 40 and I've done enough of the end-game content to know that the game isn't worth my time...

Excuse me, but the only thing l won't let you say about WAR is that it is a Wow-clone.
WAR is a serious, "manly" game..the absense of the /dance command proves it..no cartoon-ish graphics, in-game jokes etc.
Not to talk about the fact of transforming your character into a chicken if he fights low-level chars like these fucking e-bullies in WoW.

Okay I admit that it does have a couple of relatively original and fresh features (PQs are great) but guess what; WOTLK is going steal most of them, therefore making the games even more similar. The review is positive, but it does have a lot of complaints in it.And there are a lot of ppl complaining about WoW, but they still play the game.

Full of bugs?! There may be some but it was always a smooth and playable experience for me. 11 million subscribers says it all...WAR will be lucky to have 500k by the end of the year.

Let me tell you something.Every MMORPG has a crucial moment, usually shortly after the release when it needs to fix all its bugs while maintaining the players' intrest.Back when WoW was released, there weren't any other good MMO'S, so WoW was the only choice for the MMO hungry gamers...nowadays, with all the money they made from that game, they can update/fix bugs/release expansions knowing that the fans will love it..even if they just put in more of everything but nothing new...

Anyway WoW/WAR/EQ are all games that I hope Darkfall won't be like =p

Agreed.The only thing l don't (or won't, to be exact) like about that game is that you need to click on the enemy to attack..but not once, as many times as needed...that can ruin your finger AND mouse...
