Oh, oh, 42 would be nice.

As you're dying you hear these lyrics repeating "Those wo are dead, are not dead, they're just livin' in my head."

Oh joy, the topic managed to get to 2 pages, no thanks to Sawdust repeating himself bless.

Alright well let's get cracking.

The following is merely an opinion, i may be spot on or miles away from the true you, don't take it srsly.

IF YOU ARE TOO LAZY TO READ IT ALL, LOOK FOR YOUR USERNAME IN BOLD.

At 8/29/08 08:37 AM, TJoyal wrote: "99 Red Balloons - Goldfinger"
"Blink 182 - Josie"
"Accidentally in Love - Counting Crows"

These are beautifully composed tracks interlined with deeper meanings than the songs actually imply.
Having said that if you are passing away to the sounds of Goldfinger then there's obviously a sense of rebellion in you which wants to fight against the inevitability of death, but as the soothing tones overcome you, you stop fighting and merely enjoy the music as you slip away.

Accidentally In Love suggests you want to be with someone you truly care about, be it a girl, a best friend or family, as you slip away you want your last thoughts to be of them so that the music, and your loves in life become one.

Casualty

At 8/29/08 08:51 AM, Casualty wrote: Slagsmalsklubben - Kasta Sten
Slayer - Raining Blood
Antonio Vivaldi - Winter

The thing is, i don't actually believe that despite your choice in music, you're actually an angry person.
I think the simple truth behind choosing those songs is they obviously make you happy to hear, but that if you were truly dying to this, you would want to feel as alive as you possibly could despite slipping away.
The true metalhead never dies and Slayer embodies that to a certain degree.

Simon

At 8/29/08 08:55 AM, simon wrote: Dream Theater - These Walls
Aerosmith - Beyond Beautiful
Scouting for Girls - Heartbeat

Dream theater music is usually interlaced with a story of sorts, i think only the odd album has gone without a major story behind it, having not listened to that particular song i can't say for sure your reasons for choosing that, aside from the fact dream theater music celebrates longetivity, reflection of self and life choices, and that the spirit transcends after death, so perhaps it would help you relax and come to terms with death if you heard it.
Although this song is a very down to earth track dealing with the issue of bottling up emotions until they become mental walls inside your own head, tearing them down is just a compulsion you get when you've been pushed too far.
It's a very complex song but it'd help with self reflection when faced with the prospect of death.

Aerosmith music is simplistic yet beautiful, Crazy is a prime example of that and so is this song, both this and Heartbeat also suggest a sense of longing for love or having that still in your life, and wanting that person by your side in your final minutes or just feeling that emotion in general.

I chose not to answer MightyPotatoes and Gasgy's simply because they described theirs already.

ReaperJack

At 8/29/08 08:58 AM, ReaperJack wrote: 1. Question! - S.O.A.D

Question is a song that tells both a story and an urge to escape from mediocrity and life in general, so this song would be an example of your urge to just break free as you slip away.

2. Scar Tissue - Red Hot Chilli Peppers

Scar Tissue is just a lovely ballad to listen to when driving late at night or lying in bed thinking, so i can't see much relation to death other than it's just a great song to listen to.

3. I'm never gonna give you up - Rick Astley

This song suggests that you died via suicide.

I kid, but if you had a 3rd song to choose i imagine it wouldn't be this.

Lost-Chances

At 8/29/08 09:15 AM, Lost-Chances wrote: A Warm Place by Nine Inch Nails.

Trent Reznor's music is almost always ambience mixed in with dark drones and even darker more sadistic lyrics, but then there are songs like this and zero sum which suggest a more reflecting part of his music, and having listened to alot of his work including all 4 of his ghost albums, i think a NIN song for death is a good choice because it helps keep the person aware of what is going on despite losing strength with every passing second, being an instrumental track and being NIN the mind is anxious to see what mixture of instruments will be mashed together to make a dark and sinister tune.

Passing Afternoon by Iron And Wine.

I only just heard this song but i remembered hearing it on House once before.
This is one of those songs that has an alterior motive hidden beneath the lyrics, on the surface it seems like a reminiscent track but also harbours feelings of regret for love loss or possibly missing someone that you love.

I'll Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab For Cutie (is that right?).

Yeah it is, death cab music is simply a sense of poetry wrapped in with a nostalgic ballad, i would personally choose tiny vessels but this song is beautiful too, it's one of those tracks that sticks in the back of your mind and when heard, can remind you of past days.
This is a song with a simple message of following a lost loved one in death.

I think you chose this for a sense of nostalgia, but you're a complicated guy so it's hard to tell.

Firesolved

At 8/29/08 09:23 AM, Firesolved wrote: People=Shit (Slipknot)

A song exurting hate against society and how unfair it can be in the real world.
This song is an anthem for anyone screwed over in the real world, and since you chose it i'd say they've majorly fucked you over too.

Either that, or corey taylors screams is simply something you'd like to die to.

Folsom Prison blues (Johnny Cash)

Johnny Cash's music is very melancholy but realistic, alot of his music is based around his own experiences and this song reflects loneliness, guilt and a strong sense of "where did i go wrong".
This is another prime example of a reflection song but with an upbeat tone.

The Drugs Dont Work (Radiohead)

I can't honestly say i've listened to this, but when i post my next set of songs that i've analysed, i'll tell you what i came up with.

1- Surrounded by Dream Theater

Mainly because this is one of my favorite songs.

2- Leave Out All The Rest by Linkin Park

Just listen to those lyrics. The message in it? "Keep me in your memories"

3- Hearts Burst Into Fire by Bullet For My Valentine

Because love will stay one of the most important things in my life :)

Hmm, this is a pretty good topic, and I've actually had to think about it, but I think I've got the three songs to die to.

Violet Hill - Coldplay
Mainly because I like Coldplay, and the "If you love me, won't you let me go/know." Kind of fits in my opinion.

Trail of Broken Hearts - DragonForce
Because I like the song, and I need to get at least one great solo as I die.

You Were Here Sir - Nate in Public
Because they're my favorite band as of right now, and the ending lyrics are just great:

On Friday nights we dance
Beneath the warmest moons
Evidently it's our nature
To fulfill our body's wager
And succumb to all our lust
Forgetting that we were innocent once
Eventually it'll catch up someday
But this is life and living never felt so right.

It's just great, and I usually listen to it all the time when I try to fall asleep.

Fear of the Dark - Iron Maiden
Die with your boots on - Iron Maiden
Dance of Death - Iron Maiden

Well not only do I love Iron Maiden, but these songs make me feel happy even though they're talking about death and fear. This is the order I'd want them in too. I would love for somebody to comment, give these songs a listen.

I can only really think of one and thats:

Sigur Rós - Njosnavelin

It's an amazing song. It's great for listening to at night. The long guitar notes give it a really haunting sound, and I can just imagine thinking back on life as I pass away listening to it.

tricky really. I'm not going to put the meanings because I'd like to see how you interpret them.
1) Faithless - Rush
2) Octavarium - Dream Theater
and DEFINATLY
3) Pull me Under - Dream Theater.
I'll at least explain that - it's mainly to do with the abrupt ending, which for me, I think, is a fitting end.
